distributor

my dtr 2000 tach will start to jump around 2500 RPM changed plugs,fuel filter,roto cap and roto bug. read a lot and possibly the distributor is going bad need help

reposting newbe to xterra my daughters 2000 xterra,s tach starts to jump around between 2000 abd 2500 RPM,s. I have replaced the plugs,fuel filter,roto cap and roto bug and it is still doing the same. I have read on line about the distributor going out. at first thought it was the fuel pump but my experance is the fuel pump just goes out. I need help with my daughter apprx 2-3 hours away from home in college cant afford to have a lot of trouble. should I replace the fuel pump or the distributor ther is a loose of power also

It might be the throttle position sensor, which is easy and cheap to replace. Also, the distributor can be fixed for around $10 by replacing the bearing in it if you know what you're doing.
