Offroading again - 11/04/04 08:21 PM

Well once again MAXC members, we are planning another trip to the coal regions of PA towards the end of this month . It will probably the 25th. A friend of mine is most likely getting an X this week and he saw what the trails were like and is very anxious to get up there. A few more X's would make it a pretty cool outing. Let me know if anyone is interested via email.

Where at, exactly, in PA?

One of the entry points to the coal mine access roads in Shamokin. The trails start off as dirt roads and get progressivly worse. Here is the GPS coordinates and a map: Shamokin GPS

I "MIGHT" be able to convice my girlfriend of it. What time are you planning on going? It would take me like 4½ hours to get there...plus 4½ hours back.

EDIT: I also have the bar in back of my X

Re: Offroading again - 14/04/04 07:50 PM

No convicing for me, mine is all for the offroad. Hmm...Bar you say.. Now when you say 4.5 hours, do you mean to Shamokin or Harrisburg area? Cause if it is to Shamokin then I would say we can meet you their around 11:30 or so cause its going to take me 1:18 to get up there my self.

Let me know cause if I can't get enough to go then I will cancel the trip, since it is Taladega weekend.

Re: Offroading again - 15/04/04 09:47 AM

I checked out mapquest and it told me around 4½ hours to get to Shamokin...this is from Morgantown WV, not Harrisonburg VA, since I have plans on fri and sat nights. I'll let you know by this Sunday evening. It takes me about an hour and a half to get to Hagerstown MD.
If g/f doesn't go for it....it all, basically, depends if we're hung over on Sunday morning...and 6 am is not a good time to wake up in that situation....maybe we could set something up for another weekend past the middle of May. We have a TON of trails down here in Harrisonburg, I haven't even come close to going on all of them. I haven't even been out this year and I'm really (REALLY) itching to do it. I'll let you know.

Were do you live in So. Cen. PA? Harrisburg?

I hear yeah about the hang over [Freak] . The more and more I think about this I think, I am going to cancel this and maybe go for mid may. Traills down there, u say? Hmm, A nice road trip to VA would be nice, we are planning to go down and stay on the Skyline drive for a weekend. I am outside of Harrisburg not in the city, no way I would live in Harrisburg.

FYI, it's bad form to post directions to a trail head on the web.

That is a public page from the Offroaders website. The trails are already known to the public. No harm done cool

FYI

Even though this info may be posted elsewhere, please be aware that parts/most of Shamokin is private land and you need permission to wheel there. Several members of MAXC have met the owner of the area we wheel and call him for permission when the club plans a trip there.

Also, SARXterra, if you haven't already, you may want to sign up for the MAXC Yahoo forum (go to www.maxc.org ) which is where the club discusses most of it's business. As you can probably see, this forum is rarely used.

Re: Offroading again - 28/04/04 08:45 AM

I have joined the Yahoo MAXC club and review the daily journals. Bear Valley Road is clearly marked and there are no signs for private property...If there was then I and the other members with me would not of traveled in there. The only sign was that no road maintence or winter maintence is performed from this point. Anyway, no harm done as we were the not the only group back there.

Just to clarify, this is NOT where MAXC goes when MAXC goes to Shamokin. Same general area, but not the same trails.
