My wife Chie and I are also planning for this. Will be attending with my twin boys Joe and Roy same as last year. I may not win the modified category this year but will compete in it. Hope to have my Calmini front bumper on by then.

I just read this on another discussion board. It may affect traffic on our traditional Sunday "most-difficult" trail run to Observation Point.

run for the Tahoe side on Sept 30/Oct 1. This would
be to pick up trash, clean out any filled drainage
ditches, etc.

deliver some rock to the intersection of Barker Pass
Road and the RubiconTrail. If this happens before
that weekend we'll be moving rock as well.

Is the trail that we are doing friendly enough for my stock X? Thanks in advance!

Re: Nissan Xterra Championships 9/30 - 10/1 - 27/09/06 11:17 AM

Romel, we will be leaving the race area around 2pm, but be sure to stop by and see me before then. I can give you directions to camp if you need to leave later.

Christi, the trail we will be doing Sunday will be the last part of the Rubicon (up to observation point). It will be highly suggested that only lifted vehicles go through as clearance will be an issue. In the past we have done ride-alongs for those that can't do the drive.

However...

Our campsite will be along an easier portion of the Rubicon-McKinney Springs trail, so reaching the campsite will not be an issue for stock vehicles.

For the trail run we'll do on Sunday, a mile or so beyond the campsite, the first difficult obstacle, called Dollar Hole (shown in this photo ) will prevent stock vehicles from proceeding. (In a past trip, some of us even required winching.) Observation Point (shown in this photo ) is a couple miles beyond, but takes about an hour to reach.

Fortunately, just before the Dollar Hole obstacle, there is a turnoff that is quite passable to stock vehicles. It heads up to the Barker Pass summit for some incredible views. Plus, there's a really fun trail that heads down from the end of the parking area at Barker Pass. You might have to look around for the trailhead signpost; it's not obvious.

Dean,

Oh, man! Now, you got me thinking about getting a Hummer and have it set up like this.

It will be cheaper to go rock crawling with this rig. I don't have to drive all the way to the Sierras to go wheeling. I'll simply drive on the streets around the place where I live and get to encounter and negotiate numerous obstacles. Getting up and over speed bumps will give me an adrenaline rush with rig. With a truck setup like this, the Rubicon Trail will be on my backyard.
