Re: NCCX club run: Barney Riley 9/20-21 - 05/09/03 04:01 PM

I have plans on sunday and so I can't make it a weekend trip. I understand that the distance (from the East Bay) is too far to be completed in a day trip.

I wonder if it would be better if I drove up on friday evening. Stayed at a local motel and then met up with you sometime on saturday. Would I make it home on saturday night at a decent hour?

Consider me off the possible list, I'm going! I may drag a couple of people from school with me wink

KJ: I'm not sure on the drive times so someone else would have to let you know, but I would think you would be able to make it home at a reasonable hour (depending on your definition of that). Maybe there is somewhere you could stay in Markleeville which is close by...Like: HERE Hope that helps, [Wave]

Glad you can make it Charlie, together we can probably find the way in there.
KJ and any others; I'll be in Friday mid morning playing, so I can meet anyone later Fri afternoon that wants to leave Saturday morning.

Lets use FRS 7 sub 1 and CB13. CYA at the Loope turnoff from 89 at 11:00. Bring fishing gear if you're into that.

Yeah, we should meet up.
If you're coming from 1/2 Moon Bay, San Jose may be too far out of your way. I'll be going up HWY 680 from HWY 101. I'm not sure what your best route is, but one idea would be to meet in Milpitas or south Fremont (so I think you'd take 101->237->880)...I think the drive would be ~3.5 hours from there (please someone correct me on this if wrong).

Re: NCCX club run: Barney Riley 9/20-21 - 17/09/03 03:51 PM

I don't mind driving to wherever to meet. We could meet at the In-N-Out at Mcarthy Ranch, if you like. (I think thats Milpitas). I really don't know how long it will take to get up there. If it is about 3 1/2 hours.... and we're meeting at 11:00... maybe leaving milpitas around 7-ish ? Olebiker, you sure ur up for us? lol.

Why don't you guys meet @ McDonald's right off of Santa Rita Exit on East bound I-580? (What city is that? Dublin?)

It should be on your way, and about the same distance/time for both of you to drive to get there...

Re: NCCX club run: Barney Riley 9/20-21 - 17/09/03 04:46 PM

Hey Olebiker,
Sign me up...I'm in!

I am leaving Friday between 3:30pm to 4pm...I should be arriving sometime between 6:30pm to 8:00pm, depending on Friday night traffic.

Are you camping Friday night as well? If So, where are you guys camping at? I'd like to join you! If not, would you like to?

Thanx & Let me know

Yup, that sounds like a better plan than meeting in Milpitas. I am assuming that Patrick will be coming over 92. If you meet in Dublin (or whatever), then Patrick won't have to backtrack to the south. Xterrabull could just take 680 to Dublin and meet there.

Agreed; 92->237 is a bit of a drive for no good reason. Sound good patrickmb?
Any idea how far the trailhead is from there?

Andy, glad you can make it, Charlie, sorry dude...Yeah I'm going up Fri morning and do the run in, then come back out Sat morning to meet the rest. I'll be camping at the trail's end on the River.
For those meeting in Dublin, here\' s a map. Here\'s another version.
It's always a drag for one woman to go on these outings with just guys. So, are any of you bringing a lady friend/wife/S.O. or would it make a difference to them to know other ladies would be there?

Re: NCCX club run: Barney Riley 9/20-21 - 17/09/03 09:36 PM

Olebiker, those maps are for Dublin to Markleeville. Just to make sure: the plan is to meet at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Loope Canyon turn off from HWY 89, right?
Patrick, I think we should probably try to meet at 7:00 AM; it seems 4 hours is a more realistic travel time. Can you swing it?

That's correct. Hi89, Loope turnoff. This is about 8 or so miles from Markleeville. And from Dublin it is about 4 hrs. I will be leaving tomorrow (Fri) morning about 7 am.

Hey Olebiker,
Thanks for the post...

I'll be leaving the Mountain View area between 3pm & 4pm...It'll take me a several hours just to get to the trail head...Then an hour or 2 just to run the trail to the campsite.

Hopefully, make it to the campsite before dark...But, I'm going to give it a shot.

Sorry...My lady friend is working both Saturday & Sunday, but at least I asked.

I'll see you tomorrow night,

Re: NCCX club run: Barney Riley 9/20-21 - 18/09/03 05:46 PM

Hi Andy,
Be carefull coming in and you'll be fine. I've done this trail in the dark and it's not too awfully bad.
I would make sure you have this map. When you head up the trail, take the SECOND 190B to the left which will merge with 310 which takes you the rest of the way in.
It's a good three hours in so I'll see ya close to midnight I would reckon.
Wake me gently! [Sleep]

Re: NCCX club run: Barney Riley 9/20-21 - 22/09/03 01:16 PM

Yes, it was great meeting & wheeling with everyone. How did you & Andy fare on Highway 4 after I took off?
Hopefully another outing can be arranged in not too distant future (I really want to try slickrock before winter sets in....).
Posted by: patrickmb

Re: NCCX club run: Barney Riley 9/20-21 - 22/09/03 03:05 PM

well.... Andy I made it.... the max speed going up any kind of incline at altitude was 9 mph !!! ... so it took a while. I didn't get home till late.. and ended up with a lot of saddle time that day (11 1/2 hours?) ... from when we left camp until home. But its all good. [Wave]

... I would love to do it again soon, but as I undestand, slick rock is beyond my stocker's abilities at this point. However... there are lots of other trails right around there (Andy pointed many spots out to me as we made our way down)

Re: NCCX club run: Barney Riley 9/20-21 - 22/09/03 03:45 PM

...Thanx PatrickMB...

I apologize to all for my X acting up...That darn modified air intake system & the X computer sure didn't mesh well together at altitude...

I placed the stock airbox back in & my X runs great again...But, just to be on the safe side, I've decided to take it into the shop to get a tune-up as well as have my X undergo a full diagnostics check...I'll know, after the check, if anything is broken, missing, bad, popped, &/or loose...If all goes well, I'll have my X ready to go for the next trip...Which by the way, is this weekend...

Thanx again PatrickMB for your support to safety...I was happy to be your guide thru the Corral Hollow & Sourgrass areas...

Thanx to everyone else for a really fun trip...
