Sounds like a plan. I don't run into any adventures at JTNP, I will definitely join you.

Okay, I am out of this one... I got some noises that need to be inspected and the car has received significant paint damage that I need to deal with smile It was worth it though!

Well, driving in JTNP can be tricky because you need to dodge many things that stick out. Branches and bushes are not as bad as Joshua Trees: Those guys have extremely sharp thorns. Unlike people who are familiar with Baja-style racing through narrow trails -- our So. Cal. members seem to be pretty good at it -- I had to learn... I smacked a bush -- or two -- and then slightly drifted into a Joshua Tree with my passenger side. You can reproduced the sound that I heard by taking a key and digging it into a side of a car smile The passenger side of the car has no square inch of metal that does not have at least one scratch...

The good news is that most of the terrible damage is done to the door. This means it is going to be easy to repaint it, if necessary. This I am going to attempt to remove some of the scratches myself with Mothers PowerBall 4Paint and its friends. I will dedicate next weekend to going through the car to ensure that the combination of washboard and high speeds did not bring any unseen damage.

/v

P.S.: I know that I mentioned a winter run during the last meeting. If you guys don't want to see snow, Joshua Tree National Park as well as Western Nevada are definitely worth exploring.

Hey all,

I'm a complete noob to all things offroading and would love to tag along on the trip. But after reading through a lot of your posts it is painfully clear that I'm underequipped with both my X (everything's factory) as well as my experience. Do you all have any suggestions for any easy runs I can do in the Bay Area to earn my spurs? Thanks in advance!

Will, Hollister would be perfect for you. It's set up like a snow park and everything is clearly labeled so you can easily stick to green/blue runs. Also you can learn lots going with a group that has been before.

You will be in good hands with D (UT48).

Re: April Hollister Hills - 07/04/08 01:05 PM

Want to thank everyone for coming out, was a good run - nice to be out on the trails again and still be home for dinner laugh

did pretty good on limited damage this time, just a little scratch on a brand new "X" "the video" , a broken off value stem and a touch of sun burn mad

also, remember that "closed" trail we hiked down to, here's the reason it's closed... old video (caution: lots of "F" bombs)

rock on - till next time
