Moab Trail Guide

Hey guys,

I'll be stopping in Maob this september on a road trip, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good guidebook for all the trails around there.

I'd suggest picking up a copy of "Guide to Moab, UT Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails" by Charles A. Wells. This book has a lot of resources that have come in handy on our Moab trips. The book has several great features: Equipment recommendations, Trails by area, by difficulty, & GPS coordinates. My book is falling apart now, so I'll probably be picking up a new copy soon.

The Charles Wells book is fantastic. It even has GPS coordinates for the trails. If you have a Garmin GPS and MapSource software, you can download the coordinates here .

Check out the "Event Pictures" section for posts about goneMOAB. Several of us have been to Moab before, and can give you some tips if you're interested.

Thanks guys, quick little search on amazon and it's on its' way to me. I'm pretty excited to experience this place. It's almost like the pilgrimage to mecca for offroad folks like us. I won't be able to get too crazy there since I don't have a trail buddy going with me...We'll be on the way to a wedding in Pagosa Springs Colorado. I'll be running stock height with sliders, and all the necessary tow points. I'm sure I'll be able to have some fun without scaring the old lady to much. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

How long do you inted to stay in Moab? There are so many trails there, to do all of them would take you weeks! That being said, since you're going solo and may not be familiar with what it's like to drive on slickrock, I'd stick with some of the easier (difficulty 3 or lower) trails.

Klondike Bluffs may be a nice trail to try. You'll probably enjoy going through Arches NP.

"Top of the World" trail is a good solo one as well.

The Wells guide is good for a newbie, but Utah is where 4x4 guide books evolved and there are ALOT. Barnes books and maps are excellent as well for more detail. But you probably dont need that much info. If you had 6 months you could get a quick intro to Utah
