Sunday May 22 - 02/05/05 12:26 PM

So who is up for an eagle lakes trip?

So the idea is to hit the trail no latter then 1030. The trail is located on highway 80 just before cisco grove exit. Stockers minus step rails and mudflaps should be fine. Im not quite sure how far we can go in as to they were logging last time we went in and then the big storms hit. Meet times will be determined as we closer and the amount of people we have. You must have good tires and a working spare laugh .

Don't let them do that to you Robert! Tires with tread are over rated!!! I mean really if say someone could run a trail that was maybe a bit tough...say the Rubicon maybe...and do it on slighlty worn tires. Well you get the point. laugh

what about these? You have George's steel rims right?

Re: Sunday May 22 - 12/05/05 05:09 PM

Dave, in the snow Eagle Lakes is quite easy, but you will flex out your truck. I would do as much bending /trimming as possible or mount your smaller tires if you have them. You might end up tearing up your 35s if you run them without clearing space for them to stuff.

Dave,
we can meet at the McDonalds off the forest hill exit across from Chevron.
Its gonna take me about 1.5 to 2 hours to get there. So if we meet at like 9-9:30 that should be fine right? Cisco grove is only like 10min up the road from there isnt it?
Oh yeah, I dont have a CB yet and my nextel probably doesnt work up there.

There are a few choices and LOTS of opinions. I got mine from Roger Brown at 4crawler.com Click Here!!! I love them and think they are the best.

Shrock also makes a set, Click Here!!! Lots of folks here have these and love them as well.

Calmini also makes a set, Click Here!!! I have heard mixed reviews on these.

Anyone of these will help. You can check out mine this weekend.

Hope this helps.

Re: Sunday May 22 - 17/05/05 04:15 PM

Just to clear up some confusion, eagle lakes exit (cisco grove is the next exit) is about 45 min to an hour away from auburn, depending on how everyone drives. I would also recommend gassing up at that chevron in Auburn since the gas is expensive in cisco grove.

Josh, I'll meet you at the trailhead at 10:00, we'll do some scouting before everyone gets there.

FRS 8 no sub channel
CB 22.

Sounds good?

I dont meen to make this sound all complicated but I dont know where the trailhead is so Im gonna need to meet somebody somewhere who does. Im sure I could find it but I dont wanna be driving around looking for it.
I can meet somebody in Auburn at 8:30 9:00 to grab a bite, take a shit, gas up, and haul ass. That should give us plenty of time to make it to the trail by 10am.
So, who can make it to Forest Hill by no later than 9am to meet me and take my dumb ass to the trail? [Freak]

Re: Sunday May 22 - 17/05/05 06:49 PM

I will be there and I know where the trail is. Read the above posts as I have posted meet times. So If there is anyone who is wants to meet at best buy in fairfield be there at 7:15 we then will head up to Auburn and hook up with you guys at about 9:00. Its about an hour from auburn to the trail head . So far the only one possibly meeting is polarbear. So if he doesnt go I will just head straight up to auburn. We usually find it easier to convoy up in case someone has problem. We just have mutilple places to meet so that someone isnt going out of there way to hook up with group.

Re: Sunday May 22 - 17/05/05 07:20 PM

Ok I'm getting confused now [Freak]
Let's see if I have this right:

May 22nd Eagle lakes trip sign up:
---------------------------------
1. Tolleyy trailhead 10:00
2. Kevin Bestbuy at 7:15, then mcd's at 9:00
3. Casper trailhead 10:00
4.Josh/95jdhog mcd's 9:00
5. Jay mcd's 9:00
6. dave mcds 9:??
7. THEEPOLARBEAR bestbuy with Kevin

does this sound right?
Dave, are you able to make it at 9:00?

Here's some directions for meeting spots and the trailhead:

Bestbuy
Fairfield CA (Store 136)
1547 Gateway Blvd.
Fairfield, CA 94533

mcd's in auburn
13370 Lincoln Way
Auburn, CA 95603

The trailhead:
Eagle lakes road exit off hwy80. Go left back under the freeway and follow that road about a mile down till you see you're first dirt road turnoff on the right. 1/4 mile ( if that) there's an open area with a bathroom. I'll be airing down there.

Any of this make sense?

Re: Sunday May 22 - 18/05/05 12:56 PM

here's a link to the latest on the trail on pirate bb.
from what I understand it's blocked before driveline hill.

I'm also looking into some other places in that area since we probably won't get very far on eagle lakes.Maybe bowman lake or the exit road from fordyce trail up to signal peak depending on snow.
we'll check out the ohv area, but probably can't cross the creek since almost all rivers are close to flood stage. We'll still find some places to have some fun though.

Casper, since your local you got any other ideas for places to go?

Here's a cool link from the yota club here.

Re: Sunday May 22 - 18/05/05 01:45 PM

There wont be much to do then. We came across the trees earlier this year and it was that far into the trail. As far as the river goes I was thinking the same thing that it is going to be flowing pretty high and probably wont be crossable and from the pictures may be very muddy with lots of water crossings. Is the gate open at china wall in forrest hill?

Re: Sunday May 22 - 19/05/05 12:19 PM

I just called, and the gates open. The ranger said we could probably get past deadwood ( where all the good stuff is) due to all the rain and warm temps.

Unless Josh comes back with a good report, I vote for Foresthill. We can run eagle lakes after the trail is fixed.

Re: Sunday May 22 - 19/05/05 02:45 PM

The gate at (Fordice) that location is closed Mike . I just got back. Went up to the trail end with no luck. As for Eagle lakes, I went down that trail about a mile or so, but then turned around. Raining to much to go any further by myself. After seeing the link you posted and my scouting run, I would say Foresthill is the best bet. What do you guys think?

After everyone left, Josh and I headed back to the snow and tackled that hill. The pics don't give that grade justice. We made it to the very top, only to find a tree blocking the trail. With a little muscle, we got it out of the way and saw some gorgeous views.

After the poser pics on the stump I found my upper A-arm bolts loose and lost my shims! I'm glad I checked before I got back on the freeway [Uh Oh !]

Had a blast and we'll do it again when the snow is gone.
