Evidently, Niagara Rim is tougher now

Evidently, Niagara Rim is tougher now - 06/08/06 06:48 PM

My club had its annual bbq this year at niagara rim this year. We were expecting a relatively easy run, but found that the trail had gotten significantly rougher. It's still not bad, but full armor and 1 locker is recommended. The first part denied a stock rubicon, but a minimally lifted ifs toy truck made it with no problems.

But for me, it was another story...I wasn't having a good day.

I chose my line poorly, another foot to the right and I would have been fine.

On a lighter note, I did this obstacle near Lion's Butt easily, while another much more built 4runner couldn't do it.

But now I have a ticking coming from my front axle so I'll have to investigate.

Here's the rest of the pics, best viewed with IE.

Ouch! Looks like it's time to break out the sawzall and turn it into a buggy!! smile j/k. Was the window damage from a rock or a tree? It doesn't look like it deformed too much, hopefully it can be bent back into shape and new glass installed. Sorry to hear about the damage.

Ouch steve! Well I had some canage over the weekend also frown .

My passenger front and rear doors now have dents courtesy of a nasty downed tree that I did not see. No pics from me, but someone might have taken some. I'll post the damage tonight if I get a chance.

Atleast you were doing some real rock crawling and can say you have damage from Niagra, I made a careless mistake on an easy trail. frown

It was that same rock that took out my mirror. You know what though, it's soooo much easier to access the rear without a window. I'm seriously thinking about using diamond plate and hinge it so I can get back there easier.

Nah, huey, I can't boast too much, niagra isn't exactly a tough trail. It'd be another story if it were the rubicon or fordyce. It was a dumb mistake that could have been avoided.

Bummer huey. It doesn't look too bad though. It will go well with a solid axle.

Steve,

What about taking a piece of 1/4" or 3/8" plexy and using a torch to bend it to the same shape as your window? Then you could put a hinge at the top and a latch at the bottom. The hard part would be getting it all to seal.

Yeah, the problem with plexy is that it'll scratch easy. I've also been thinking about how to seal it up. But I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up just replacing the glass as I've already found a local place that will sell it for $85 plus $45 if I want them to install it.

That was my suggestion to use plexiglas but he isn't biting. It would make it better since that wouldn't be a breakage risk in the future.

Of course, he could also just pick better lines, too... [Wave] laugh

Give Skid Row a call.
Pika broke one of his rear windows at Tellico and he replaced both of them with black diamond plate.
Skid Row might actually make more if you ask nicely. laugh

They look bad ass, and it darkens up the interior quite a bit, for those of you that sleep in the truck while camping.
