Any good 4x4 trail in the South Lake Tahoe area? I am also willing to drive to the west or east end of the lake.

I am going on a Saturday and Sunday mountain biking trip in Tahoe this coming weekend. I got Friday off at work and I am thinking of using this day to go 4 wheel driving and hiking. Any good 4x4 trails I can go to and also have a nice place to hike along or at the end of the 4x4 trail?

Yep there are a couple of easy trails around the lake.

There is one that starts just south of Spooner summit on Highway 50 right next to the N-Dot storage yard. The trail runs all the way to South Shore and ends at 207. There are several branch trails and you can also drive up to Genoa Peak.

This trail runs real close to the Tahoe Rim trail and actually comes out at the start of one of the trail heads.

If you have time on Saturday morning to lend a hand, you might want to do a little wheeling and help some handicapped kids and their counselors get out of camp. There are a number of small lakes in the area as well as Sierra Buttes.

Get the best of both worlds. Great offroading and great appreciation from these awesome kids and counselors.

See CampWamp #2 if interested.

Hope to see you there. We need at least 5 more rigs.

Barker Pass trail is another good trail that is not difficult for a stock rig. It starts at Tahoma on the west shore of Tahoe, and actually follows the last few easy miles of the Rubicon-McKinney Springs trail before heading north on its own easy and scenic ascent to a hiking area.
