Question for any PNW X owners

Question for any PNW X owners - 18/09/04 03:53 PM

Hey guys/gals,

Buying my first X here within the next few days, and I'm going to start modding it asap. To start I'm going to put on the 3" Calmini suspension lift and also the Calmini steering kit.

I'm wondering where the best/cheapest place to get these are. I'm installing them myself and I've gotten quotes from a couple places here in the greater Vancouver Area and they've been pretty high($2000 CDN for the lift alone). [Huh?]

Any advise I could get from you guys on good places to deal with would be HUGELY appreciated. I'm more than willing to drive to Washington if the it's worth it.

Cheers!

Yeah, order them directly from the manufacturer (Calmini) and find a willing receiver in Seattle. Join the club, meet some of the guys and I'm sure at least one of them will offer some garage space to get it all thrown on. I'll gladly bring down my wrenches to lend a hand!

Only crazy people buy Xterra stuff up here, holy crap do the taxes and duties make a huge impact on the price. Conman did it this way, dunno what lottery he won. [Huh?]

Thanks for the reply cool

I have a friend in Bellingham, so I'll get it shipped there. The price difference is huge.

I will definetly be joining the club, I've pretty much decided to get an X I was looking at a couple days ago. If all goes well I'll be the proud owner by this time tomorrow!

Wish me luck!

A word of advice... you may want to get feel for the truck before you slap on a lift. There are plenty of people in the club that make short work of trails without it. Rock sliders, tires, and some skid plates are a good investment for starters.

Mosi is right, you may find (as many others of us had) that you don't even need the expensive lift for 99% of the trails out there. Two of us for certain, Claus and myself, are very happy with the simple add-a-leaf in the rear and torsion bar crank for the front.

But hot damn is a fully lifted X with big tires really sweet looking. laugh

Thanks for the advise guys,

I have been contemplating whether or not to hold off on the lift and use the money for other mods..Tires and skid plates I am purchasing regardless. One of the main reasons I am leaning toward the suspension lift is I want to get 33"'s when I purchase tires. Nothing is set in stone, but if I did decide to get them then, from what I understand, I would need a lift(and some trimming).

And yes, on a less practical not, it is sweet looking!! [Smoking]

I wouldn't go with a 33 unless you want to hear constant rubbing when flexed. A 32x11.50 is almost too big since it rubs the fuel line cover. I just ended up taking the cover off to eliminate the rubbing. If you keep the 16" rims, you could go with a 265/75/16, that works out to be about a 32x10.50 which would work beautifilly. You could go with a body lift to get the 33s under there with no rubbing, but you are messing with the center of gravity and not to mention loss of power due to the bigger tire.

You can fit a 32 under there with a bit of trimming and a T-bar crank.

I would personally get the tires, skids, and sliders first. Save money on the lift and get a bull bar and winch... then pick up the lift.

This site is a godsend. Thanks for the advise!

Will 32's fit with stock suspension w/o many repercussions then?(with the t-bar crank and trims)

I have decided to hold off on the lift and get a safari rack and the bull bar and winch. Possibly the Add-a-Leaf kit as well.

Yes, this is a shot of my old X before I put the lift on it. Those are 32x11.50 on 15s.

Here is a pic of 23 vintage Xterras for a total of 46 square headlights... It amazes me that we used to get that many of us in the club together. Now it's about 8 trucks tops.

Hey guys how is it going? I'm down in calif, with the norcal club. I have a fully lifted X with 35" tires and love it. I was reading the advice you were giving and it is true, but creeks and river croossing can be a bear. I put a snorkel on a couple of years ago and even with it the lift and tires do come in handy. Sorry to barge on the conversation, Keep Wheel'n

Those look awesome. Definetly going with that size.

On a side note, I am now officially the proud owner of my first X!

Can't say how much I appreciate all the help from everyone. Definetly helped to get me exactly what I wanted, at a good price. I knew more about Xterras than the Nissan salesman!

Joining PNWX asap, hope to see you all there..
