Big Bend - 05/02/07 01:21 PM

I just returned from BB and had a GR8 time. Wheeled with guys from the ExpeditionPortal site. They wheel but mainly do trips backcountry for the sites and camping experience.

Even wheeled with a Montero smile Camped at sites I had not been to before and we were entirley alone out there. Got down to 32 in the evenings but the full moon and warm cloths made it fine. It made it up to the 60's in daytime and very sunny smile

We should really plan a club trip there it is beautiful and very nice getting to the primitive places to camp.

Here's some teasers smile

Hehe! Nope, that was Wil from the Expeditions West forum. I did go but had to drop out before Roger got there due to some mechanical gremlins.

Tons of fun and we definitely need to hook up with when we run BiBe 2008!

Yep Taco with ARB,snorkel, rooftop tent and much more. The Montero had an ARB and a lot of outback stuff like built-in refrigerator and classy storage areas for mucho gear.

Missed Patrick and another as they had challenges after getting there.

Did I mention I love Big Bend's remoteness smile

NO FREAKING KIDDING! I wasn't even to Boerne and was starting to hate San Antonio. The traffic. The noise. Dang it sucks! The simple solitude is soooo nice.

Love the pics. I hiked Big Bend last year, and had a blast. Never went wheeling there, but I plan to. Man it can get HOT if you go at the wrong time of year.

I did the Old Ore Road there, and a few offshoots as well. Great scenery but didn't really get into a situation where I would even need 4 wheel drive.

Great park and it's huge - takes over an hour to get from one side to the other (if going the park speed limit).

i just did 5 days at big bend. killer place. when you're there, you
definitely don't feel like your in tx.

i did the old ore road trail. it's 26 miles of rock and gravel. not
a heavy 4wd road at all, but it does get you away from the crowds into some cool isolated places.

there are quite a few dirt roads in the park, and i will say, it is
one of the most beautiful places on earth.
