May 17-18th Camping Trip - 17/04/03 08:01 AM

I am in the process in setting up a camping trip to Tyler State Park for the end of May. Most likely it will be the weekend of May 17-18th. If you are interested in attending I need to know by the end of next week so we can reserve camping sites. If you do not want to use a camping site and wish to use a cabin that will be up to you to reserve.

Here are a few things that can be accessed while out there.

Boating (5MPH limit on lake)
Fishing
Birding
Hiking
Mountain biking
Lake swimming
Nature study
Also the camping area is about 45 min from Barnwell Mountain if anyone wants to do some four wheeling.

Some of the facilities out there are

Restrooms
Showers
Picnic sites
water/electric camp sites
dump stations

There are many other attractions in the local area for small day trips that include

Texas State Railroad
Tyler Rose Garden
Planetarium
Oil Museum
Flower Trails
Tyler zoo

We have several options for sites like a primitive area right on the lake that only offers restrooms/showers for 6$ a day and up to 14$ for the sites with water/electric hookups.

Please reply to hattrik21@attbi.com or Prez@swxc.org if you would like to participate.

2 questions: are we allowed to bring our dogs (2) and are we allowed to bring our friends and their dogs (non-xterra club owners)?

thanks!

Most State parks allow dogs but have to be leashed and not left alone.

I personally say the more the merrier as far as friends no matter what they drive but thai is my .02

I'm going for a cabin smile as soon as Dan confirms dates.

May 17-18th look to be the best because the next two are the weekends before/after Memorial day.

On the pets issues this is what their site says

1. bring into or possess within a state park a pet or other domesticated animal, unless the animal is secured by a leash not exceeding six feet in length, or confined in a vehicle, or to permit an animal to enter into or remain in a unit of the state park unless so secured;

I agree with Roger, the more the merrier.

Roger no tent camping??? wimp!! [Finger]

I'm sure you can get in. I don't see anything on their site about it but I will look more when I get some time.

Your more than welcome to go. We'll be posting a place for the Dallas folks to meet up so we can caravan out there.

Re: May 17-18th Camping Trip - 12/05/03 04:22 PM

Dan, do you want to meet at 0800 at the Wal-Mart in Garland? (Just tell me which road it is off so I do not have another Tour De Garland. smile )

Plano/McKinney/Allen folks:
We can meet at the Wal-Mart off 75 and Spring Creek at 0730 and meet the rest in Garland for the full on caravan at 0800, or we all can just meet in Garland. No biggie either way, just post what you want to do here so I know who to meet and where.

The Wal-Mart in Garland works for me. See you there at 8.

Here is the address of the Wal-Mart so everyone can print out maps to it, if they aren't sure how to get there.

Those who are going, what does everyone want to do for dinner? Fajitas, burger, hot dogs or only bring what you want to eat?

Re: May 17-18th Camping Trip - 13/05/03 12:57 PM

Scott said he wanted fajatas. What should we bring to share? I'm bringing smore stuff, that's non-negotiable.

Re: May 17-18th Camping Trip - 13/05/03 01:23 PM

I thought I would fish all day and then we eat fish. If there are a lot of us I will go snare a rabbit or two. I think I saw some wild rubarb along I20 so that will give us our greens.

Who can bring some sweets smile

Re: May 17-18th Camping Trip - 13/05/03 03:04 PM

I think since we dont' know how many people will actually show up, to bring what you want and we will just cook it all about the same time. I'm bringing fajita meat so if everyone wants to just do that then bring a little bit of meat and some tortillas and we'll just go from there.
