The extra support must be a new thing... I had to go looking to figure out what they were talking about::
It's an extra support between the two slider rails (not an extra attachment to the frame). I'd say it's not needed. Mine (and all of the older ones) only have one support and I've never heard of that being a failure point.
A couple things to think about:
1) 4x4parts sells Shrockworks sliders - but they're about $30 cheaper than they are on the Shrockworks site. Plus if you tell 4x4parts you're an SWXC member (you are joining, right
) you'll get an additional discount.... but maybe if you call Shrockworks they'll cut you a deal. I dunno... plus if you have family or friends in Houston you might be able to pick 'em up in person if you buy straight from Shrock and save a fair amount of shipping $$
2) Sliders really aren't hard to make... a little steel tube, some cutting, and some welding is all it takes to make a basic rectangular design slider. See
