12/16 9:00 a.m. Breakfast meet at Peggy Sues 50's Diner. Depart ~ 10am.
1-15 Ghost Town Road

Directions:
On I15 about 8 miles west of Barstow on the way to Las Vegas take the Ghost Town Road Exit and turn right onto Ghost Town Road. Go to the 4 way stop and turn left then make an immediate left into the Peggy Sues 50's Diner parking lot.

12/16-17- The Calico OHV area has a variety of trial for all different levels. Mule & Wall Street [Easy], Phillips Loop [Easy to Moderate], Odessa [Moderate to Difficult] and Doran [Difficult]. Sliders recommended for Odessa, a fun tight in spots rocky cyn trail but near stock 4x4’s ok in the past. Doran is tougher so that + lift, and some experience in the rocks is recommended, plan on bypassing the extreme obstacle at gatekeeper on the lower section. We will start on the Phillips loop on Saturday and head over to Odessa for those that want to run that one. Night run to the lake laugh or something.

Doran and Wall street on Sunday with a trip to the ghost town and other sites in between.
Trail Map: http://www.calicotown.com/ohv/images/topomap.jpg

Primitive Camping at Camp Rock in Mule Canyon Saturday night; Bonfire, cookout, bag on somebody hr, tall tales, the whole nine yards. Full-featured campground at the town site is also available (800) 862-2542.

Anyway please post up if you're interested, have some other stuff in mind, etc.

I would love to make this one. I hate to miss the ones close by but... I have this thing on Sunday. It's in the afternoon so please tell me more about the campsight on Saturday night. Can I find my way out alone Sunday morning? Will I need GPS? Is it safe to do alone?

Re: 12/16-17 Calico - 27/11/06 10:11 PM

Dan so you want to come out saturday night or sunday morning? Either way we can send somebody out to meet you given a time or shout out on the FRS.

Otherwise exit Calico Rd at Yermo, Go North about a mile, turn right at a small sightpost for Mule Canyon Road. Head north onthe road, go straight at 0.6 where you see a left fork. Another mile after that is Camp Rock

Re: 12/16-17 Calico - 28/11/06 08:43 PM

Brian, Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I'm going to be there Saturday morning, wheel all day and camp Saturday night. I need to leave the camp site by 8:00 Sunday morning. So my question is how difficult will it be to find my way out alone?

Re: 12/16-17 Calico - 28/11/06 08:56 PM

Oh easy then since you'll already know your way around. Just remember how we enter and you should be fine, straight forward path out south, turn left at Calico Rd to I15.

Re: 12/16-17 Calico - 03/12/06 08:36 AM

Dan nah just some tight rocky canyons of doom [LOL] Yes the drive through arch tunnel is on the way to Odessa for sat.

Odessa isn't nearly as tuff as it once was since some of rocks have been blown apart but still has some challenges. One spot you might need a spotter since its tight coming down; see inline. Other than that near stock with sliders should fine.

Doran on the other hand is more difficult and a lift will help+sliders. Done that one near stock also but see how you do in Odessa 1st before, best to have a locker for the waterfall.

Not an official SCCX member, but went to high school in Yermo for a year (don't ask). Peggy Sue's is awesome, and I buried a few vehicles at Odessa at a young age. If you see a VW beetle cab sitting on a Bronco chassis with 34" MTs out there, my buddy Darren is on the trail. Wish I could go.

Can I join this trip? I am from the San Francisco Bay Area and a member of the Northern California Club Xterra. I am currently on vacation in SoCal. I would like to check out Calico OHV and meet some of the Southern California Xterra owners.

Rommel [Wave] yes be our guest, calico is really a fun place with lots to do & see.

Dan...should be ~ 10 trucks I’m guessing; couple of others trucks from the xmas party and whatnot indicated they were going I recall.

Re: 12/16-17 Calico - 16/12/06 08:17 PM

Woo Hoo, first one back. Had a great time as I'm sure everyone else did. We had five X's and a Durango. Lots of rocks and scraping. I can tell you that armor does not make your truck more capable, just more dent resistant. John went through a tight spot with no problem and I got pinched on both sliders. Locker didn't help, just sat there with four tires spinning. Couldn't open the doors either so I just waited for the strap. Made it through the last bit in the dark and everyone decided not to camp so we aired-up and hit the highway. Good times.

Re: 12/16-17 Calico - 17/12/06 08:29 PM

I just got an e-mail from Shrock and my sliders are
being delivered Tuesday. That was a great trip except
it took a long time to refill my tires- I think the gas station did this to make more money or it was just worn from all the off road usauge. Will use my own compressor next time.
I had great spotters and advice on how to run the trails. And of course I will never know how many miles I would have driven in 4low on the I-15 if not for the heads up!Thanks again! I felt comfortable driving my X, now I feel confident. My back is still sore from trying to see over the hood,I will be calmer next time.
Still a newb but learning.
