why not have a moderator for it so that they can delete the "pointless" ones?

But then you have complaints both ways. Hey my poll wasn't stupid etc.

I am not the admin so it is his decision but just stating it has been discussed before.

I would say it would be a mistake to give all users the ability to create polls.

If any user thinks a poll is warranted, they could always PM a moderator or XOC.

There is no need for all users to have that ability.

I don't care either way. But a poll is nothing more than a post with a question with the exception that the choice of answers is given and results tracked.

Some of the examples given for stupid polls like what's your MPG are already being asked in the form of a regular post. So what is the difference between a post on MPG or a poll on MPG?

I dunno if their BB system can do this but, why not enable polls for users over a certain post count, like 200 or so. People with a post count of 200 or more are sure to know what coutns as a stupid poll here on XOC. Plus if they do post a stupid poll I'm sure the hounds of XOC call them a n00b and ignore what they have to say for a while.

I'm new here, but I belong to a couple other forums where users are allowed to put a poll in their thread. I have not seen it get out of hand. The stupid polls generally get ignored so they end up low on the list, so people don't tend to generate useless ones.

The power of a poll is in its statistical capabilities which would actually add value to some threads--like the MPG thread, it could calculate statistics which are much more easily interpreted than trying read all the posts to get an impression of overall figures.

Just my two cents.
