With the CALMINI gears you get a wider selection of useful gears to choose from. Picking the right gear, and achieving wheelspin is actually easier.
If you look at the crawl ratios below you'll notice that 3rd, 4th and 5th gear in (stock) 4LO are within the ratios of 4HI, making those gears almost redundant.
With the CALMINI gears only 5th gear falls within the ratios available in 4HI.
4HI
1 - 16.60
2 - 9.63
3 - 6.30
4 - 4.64
5 - 3.76
4LO (stock gearing)
1 - 33.53
2 - 19.45
3 - 12.74
4 - 9.36
5 - 7.59
4LO (CALMINI gearing)
1 - 65.06
2 - 37.75
3 - 24.72
4 - 18.17
5 - 14.74
Example, if you were in a situation where 2nd gear 4LO (stock, 19.45:1) was required to maintain wheelspin and momentum you would use 4th gear 4LO instead (18.17:1). If you slowed a bit and needed to downshift to 1st gear 4LO (stock, 33.53:1) you might be geared too tall, where the CALMINI gears would let you shift down to 3rd at 24.72:1.
