HP after mods?

HP after mods? - 27/06/01 05:15 PM

Hey,
I'm trying to decide between waiting for an 02 or just getting my X now. So heres what my question is. If I was to get a new intake and exhuast system, and an air filter what kind of increase in power am I looking at?

I'm sure some people here have done all this and I'd appreciate if you all could help me out. Thanks.

My guess is 170 HP and 200 lb./ft. of torque.

it all depends on what stickers you add to your X!

Probably 185 HP and 185 lb/ft at 3500 RPM of torque.

You have to give to receive!

The guys at SLR said with the cat-back and iv airbox mod, it's between 190-192hp... I have no idea of the RPM. Seems like a lot to me

Check this out:

I will also post after I pick up my truck on Monday (7/2) - they are designing an exhaust specifically for the Xterra. Which makes me wonder, does anyone know what exhaust they are selling at SLR? Is it the Frontier exhaust?

Man thats huge. I mean I know that 220 Hp is the peak but thats still a big increase. But there must be a disadvantage to get that much extra power out of the engine, right?

How much would something like probably cost you?

The Cam Shaft in the spec on the Low Racing page, is that the stock or after market cam? I jump from 170hp to 220hp with just some bolt on parts seems a bit high?

So then if you give up some torque but gain some HP then that would mean your X would have a higher top speed but lower acceleration when your first getting going (as in getting onto the freeway or something like that), right or wrong?

Wow,
the specs on that SLR performance kit are huge. More torque and more hp.
Hate to see how much it is, performance is all about money, how fast do you want to go?

The problem as I see it is you get the huge increases in hp with huge increases in rpm ...

How many on the Forum have had their X revved up to 4300 rpm ? ...

I wince when I hit 4000RPM.

It's all "how fast can you afford"?

My $0.02 however... go for a roots type supercharger. It gives more power/torque where you need it... at lower RPMs. All the other mods are made for higher RPM horsepower gains.

Just my $0.02.

Re: HP after mods? - 06/07/01 03:37 PM

I just looked at the orginal post and realized I didn't address your question. Let me try again.

I used to have a 240sx... I souped it up with new headers, cat, cat-back exhaust, and high flow intake... I noticed a DROP in low RPM power and an INCREASE in top end power... my quess is that it'll do the same to your X.

I would consider waiting till August to test drive the '02 SC. It's right around the corner. Then make your decision. Plus, if you decide that you do not need the SC, you can get a great deal on an 01.

Uh, every day. The automatic transmission has shift points higher than that. The redline is on the tach for a reason,,, run it up there sometime, you may enjoy it. hehe

I try to keep my rpms as low as possible, typical freeway rpms is 3000, city varies but never about 4000 if I can help it, off-road usually below 2500.

I also get 18mpg .

My automatic never shifts that high.
And I have pushed it up to 5,000 rpm once or twice, but the scream the engine makes that high makes me shudder.

Have you ever pushed the little skinny petal on the right, all the way to the floor? Shift points change depending on how heavy on the throttle you are. When I'm heavy on the throttle I shift out of first and second at 5500rpm. Doesn't hurt the engine a bit or Nissan wouldn't have designed it to do it. Remember they have rev limiters and governors built in too.

Re: HP after mods? - 19/07/01 04:16 PM

You have to look at it differently.
At the old peak of 2800 rpm, torque has increased from 200 ft. lbs to 226 ft. lbs. There is still an increase (pretty good one), it's just that the PEAK is higher (2800 to 4300 rpm). It's the same way with the horsepower. At the old peak (4800 rpm), it has gone from 170 hp to 215 hp with the mods. This is a healthy increase. The better increase in power at higher rpm is just natural - you get more gas and air going through an engine and you are going to get more power.
I guess another option would be supercharging?

Re: HP after mods? - 19/07/01 04:58 PM

I pass 4500 all the time but I don't think I've hit 5000 yet.
If you want all that out of the engine, why buy an X? Buy something with a V8
