Pop filter vs. Intake

Pop filter vs. Intake - 13/06/03 05:40 AM

Honestly, what is the difference? Is it just the fact that the intake comes with pipes and hoses and the pop is just a filter??

Also i have seen on the site many posts in regards to both of these, however none really answer the question.....

Does the x get better gas mileage?

Also when i added one of these to my wife 96 sentra mileage went up but so did the cabin and exterior sound. Given this is a 4cyl and the x is a 6 cyl. What type of noise will this produce?

Thanks

The Cone filter stile intake has less pluming between the intake manifold and the air. This tends to translate to better throttle response (The engine revs sooner after you hit the gas, or should I say air, peddle). Also some of the stock intake plumbing can be a little restrictive and has allot of bends in it so it causes the engine to have a little harder time breathing. That is where any HP and MPG come from.

Plus the cone filter usually has more surface area for the air to come through.

The drawback, or bennefit depending on your personality is that the intake doesn't have all the resonator chambers to keep the noise down.

Greater surface area allows more air to flow. The stock is very much designed to keep the noise level to a minimum. The least amount of restriction at the intake allows the engine to take in air quicker. Any bends, elbows, dropping in diameter of the supply slows the air from flowing freely.I've fabricated my own intake and gained 2 m.p.g. average and throttle response is greatly improved using a cone filter. I also have the Gibson exaust that made a big difference.

deep throat......

I just ripped out the stock format and stuck the pop-charger on it -

I think it sounds so much nicer.....

but then I can't hear a thing with my new stereo and sub.... [Laughing]
