Rear Differential Torque Specs - 07/09/12 09:54 PM

It's time to replace the rear differential fluid on my 2002 Xterra. I'm going to use Valvoline 75W-90 full synthetic GL-5.

Does anyone know the torque specs for the two drain bolts on the rear differential? I don't want to over tighten and strip something.

Thanks

29-43 ft.lbs is torque speck , so 35 should do it.

Here is a little tip for you.....

Make sure you can loosen both the drain and fill plugs before you empty the differential, I have run into cases where one or the other has become stuck not allowing me to fill or dump the diff.

Be sure to clean all the debris off the magnet that is attched to the drain plug.

be sure to apply some sort of thread sealant to the drain and fill plugs. Permatex liquid teflon threat sealant works good , so does regular RTV like Permatex Ultra Gray.

Thanks Nissan MasterTech

Good tip about making sure the fill plug is loose before draining.
