Is my clutch trying to tell me something? - 22/06/13 08:48 PM

Hi all,

I have 2001 X, V6, 4wd, manual tranny, 143K miles. He has seen some offroad, heavy loads, towing, hills, traffic, snow, you name it.

Few month ago I've noticed that the truck makes some whining noise on neutral. Not much, nothing crazy. But then I press the clutch pedal down to the floor the noise stops. Strange....

Few weeks ago I've noticed that when I starting from a dead stop and push it hard, when RPMs go over 2 - 2.5K on 1st and 2nd gear I hear the noise too. Similar to the "neutral" noise, but I cannot tell is it really the same or not. Strange....

So, is my clutch trying to tell me something? Something like "hey, dude, I've worked for you 143K miles, I wanna retire now"... :-)

Basically, are those symptoms tell about clutch wearing out?

Thank you in advance,
Tarpan

Could be the pilot or throwout bearing, or the clutch being worn, or all of them, etc.

What was the verdict? Mine had the same symptoms all summer and then today... yup. Did you have to do any work to the transmission?

The verdict - exhaust manifolds have rusted through.
