That appears to be a well-contrived joke...

My favorite is the crappers at the ESPN bar in New York: there's a small TV in every stall and one over every urinal broadcasting ESPN (live if they're shooting Sportscenter). Adding a Web connection isn't far off, and since TV and Internet are slowly converging to digital streamed media, I'd say we see it within 10 years.

You know, I don't see it happening anytime soon. As soon as we have enough bandwidth to watch television on the internet at TV quality, commercial television will be on to HD. It's going to be a LONG time before they converge completely.

I'd agree with you completely, especially given that industry still wants consumers to purchase two separate pieces of hardware for TV and Internet. Granted, they can't make twice as much money if they only sell you one box that "does it all."
But then there's that pesky AOL thing...
Time-Warner owns AOL, AOL owns Netscape, and Time-Warner/AOL recently bought the largest cable company on the west coast from AT&T, Comcast. Comcast (which also sells cable modems and Internet access) has virtually a nationwide viewership, and it is rumored that the next version of their broadband software will be built on AOL. If that isn't a covergence of media, I don't know what is!

Either Brett was right for once, or MicroSoft was really considering doing this until they got public outlash for it and are now backpeddling

It's a very common mistake in general, but only because Brent and Brett sound alike and Brett is more common. It is kinda weird on a message board where it's actually spelled out, takes a pretty big brain fart to screw it up
Brent
