Either spray it down with a hose (soap not necessary) or go through one of those automatic car washes that also has undercarriage wash as an option. Personally, I prefer the latter because I prefer the high pressure wash to get all of the salt out of the crevices (sp?). Of course, you could buy what some already have: a high pressure washer for the house. The only reason why you would want to wash the underside is to get rid of the salt they spray on the roads to keep from getting excessive corrosion from occuring.

When I wash my X in the winter, I go through a manual bay and spray the wheel wells and under the whole underbody as a pre-wash. You can never wash the underbody too much in the winter!

Wait for one of the warmer days and get under there with a hose. Nothing beats thouroughly washing out every nook and cranny of the underbelly with a nice high-pressure stream. A lot of salt, mud and funk can accumulate under there, especially if you off-road or drive in foul conditions.

I'm particularly anal about ridding the truck of any and all road salt and crud during the winter...

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure when it comes to rust and corrosion prevention!

We try to wash ours (underneath especially) every day above freezing in the winter. We try to do this in the late afternoon, then park in the garage overnight to drip dry. This helps prevent frozen locks, etc... in the winter from overnight freezes.

If you can help it, never let the sun set on a dirty/salty X.
