wax poll - 21/09/03 06:38 AM

I know there are alot of wax questions out there. I did a search and looked over all of them. My question is I have a molton lava xterra and I want the paint to shine. I had a show car prior to my X and would spend a full day stripping it, glazing it, and polishing it. Well that is over now. I want a wax to protect it and shine good, but to last a while too. My X sits out every night so it really needs to last. Right now I use Meguire's cleaner wax. It is ok but does not last too long. I have read about the three step process, but don't want to do that. What about Meguire #26, Zymoil, or others. I have used Zymoil car soap before and it did a good job. So I know it should be a good product. I need so wax. What about the cleaner waxes. Are they bad for your surface? Please help me out. Thanks

I use the first 2 steps of Meguires but finish off with Collinite #476s Super Doublecoat Auto Wax. It beads much better and lasts forever (almost). Meguire's is known for NOT lasting very long.

I have been very happy with Zymol for the normal monthly waxes. My truck is silver though so it is hard to judge its effectivness on a darker color.

I have been using Zymol for a while now and I'm very pleased with the results. I've used it on several different colors and it provides a nice, deep finish. Zymol seems to hold up pretty well even with all of the rain we have had here over the last 4 months.

Zymol is the best wax I've found. Before the X, I've always owned black vehicles, and Zymol definately gave me results head and shoulders about Meguir's, and everything else I've used, when it comes to appearance.

I've tried many different products over the past 8-10 years. The product that I have found to work best is Race Glaze. It works easily and shines great. Living in Hawaii unable to get away from salt air where ever you go turns 1 year polishes into 2 weeks at best. Race Glaze seems to last the longest for me and it really makes the paint shine. I used to have a Denim Blue X and I did 1/2 of the hood with Zymol and 1/2 with Race Glaze and the shine was much better on the Race Glaze side. Also for the Zymol users who don't already know it, the product you buy in Dept. Stores is made by Turtle Wax. The real Zymol, (only available in higher end automotive stores will blow away anything else out there. Prices range from about $60.00 a jar on up to $1500.00 [Huh?] for the Concours Blend. Check out Zymol.com.

Poorboy's all the way. Very easy to use and seals the paint for a good 6+ months! I have used the others listed above and found they can be a pain to work with. Being a detailer I need to use something that is easy and produces a great shine that is durable. Collinite is said to be a great product ... that is the only one I havent tried yet.

Alright i have a wax related question. Winter is coming sooner than later so i need to get out and give the X a REAL wax job, i cant be lazy and use the Eagle 1 was-as-u-dry shit anymore. What wax if any are specificly formulated for winter protection. What waxed last for a good 5-6 months under harsh conditions?
