Scangauge II

Anyone buy a Scangauge II for their "X" and if so where did you mount yours?

I've seen the SGII mounted on top of the steering column in front of the gauges in one X and attached to the top of the dash in front of the wheel in another X. I think the steering column installation is more stealthy and looks better, but it's a little bit harder to access there.

I have 2 SGII's: one in my Pathfinder, mounted on top of a tilt-meter above the center A/C vents (pic here ), and one in my Mazda, mounted here .

Monitoring and interacting with the SGII is relatively easy from either location. The unit is actually pretty small, so you can be creative with where to mount it.

Mines mounted on top of the dash, to the left of the instrument cluster, by the a-piller. Fits nice and neat in there. Ran the wire into the dash so you don't see it at all.

I mounted mine in the tray below the AC controls.

Oh, and if you haven't seen these. Pricey, but pretty cool.

Dumb question: is the Scangauge really worth it? How accurate are the measurements it offers (like MPG, distance to empty, etc.)? Thinking about getting one but I wanted to know what people are using it for and what they think of it.

IMO, absolutely! A generic code reader costs between $50 and $100, and all it can do is read the codes and reset the check-engine light! The SGII does so much more.

It allows you to enter correction factors for MPG and speed, so that it can more accurately calculate MPG, distance to empty, etc.

I like its ability to track the various sensors, such as coolant temp, voltage, MAP, throttle position, intake temp, too.

I agree as well, for the price it is a nice little tool.

I have the SG1 in the Jeep and an SG2 in the X.

Well I decided to mount the Scangauge II next to the 4X4 switch over the VDC (blank) controls. I think this is a good place because it is an inconspicous place out of the sun. Here is a picture.
