Inspection Problems - 09/06/10 02:14 PM

Hello, I am new here and just wanted to say hello first. I have a 2000 Xterra that I can't get inspected because of too many unset readiness codes as the inspection statement says. I had this problen a year ago but after a little driving it passed. I had to replace the distributor 2 months ago and have been trying for the past month to get it inspected with no luck. Just wondering if anyone else has has this happen or know a solution for it. Thanks David

What are the codes?

And what state are you in?

No codes, just the inspection sheet from the machine. It says catalyst not ready, O2 sensor heater not ready, EGR System not ready, EVAP System not ready and O2 sensor not ready. The three other monitors as they call it were ready and I am in North Carolina. Thanks

There may be a problem with the computer, the ECM. A freind of mine with a 2000 X had a similar problem. I don't remember the exact particulars of his situation, but I remember that the inspection station (this was in NJ) could not get proper readings from the computer when they hooked up the OBDII. He ultimately replaced the computer and it passed inspection. I know someone from NY with a 2002 X (I think it was a 2002) also had to replace his computer to get it to pass inspection.

You may want to take it to a dealership and have them take a look at it. It seems odd to me that all of those sensors could be bad or flaky at the same time.

Okay, thanks I was thinking that may be it but wasn't sure. Thanks again

I would check for an ECM in a junkyard. The dealer will charge you a fortune for a new one. It's not difficult to replace, you just have to get to it, it's beneath the radio.
