Garage Heater

I hate working on the truck in the cold. I'm looking for a decent heater that I can use to heat my garage to about 50 degrees F. I have an insulated 2 truck garage, but would like to see what some of you recommend. I used to have a kerosene heater in the past, but now there seems to be a lot of propane heaters available.

Any recommendations?

You've probably seen those that look something like a jet engine on wheels. That's probably the way to go, don't know what they cost though.

We had one of those on our ranch in Texas. Heated up a 60' X 120' barn. You put that in your garage and better bring the sunscreen. They're also quite loud.

www.Harborfreight.com is having a heater sale right now, you can pick up a propane forced air(has a fan) heater for under $70 which will heat the garage just fine. Remember though that if you are working with flammable material that produces fumes(like gas) turn the heater off.

Propane's definately the way to go. I got a wall mount heater at home depot and a 100gal tank and it heats my 1000 sq ft garage like you wouldn't believe. I can go out and turn it on and in 15 min. its nice and toasty

I have one of those little honeywell 2000 watt electric forced air heaters from Home Depot, and that sucker keeps my 3 car garage reasonably warm. Just set the thermostat and let er go. Of course, I have a new house and my garage is well sealed for the most part. I leave the heater set 24-7 and it keeps the garage at about 60 degrees. Not a very powerful thing, but for less than 20 bucks, and no installation hassel, what do ya want?

I have one of those forced air "turbine like" heaters too. Damn, if it doesn't heat up just about any garage - but yeah, it's crazy loud.

The best solution, IMO - are those grate-like devices that attach to the 20lb. propane tanks either directly (see Cabelas or hunting/camping places) or via hose and mount up under the rafters. They're not as fast, but they're silent and pretty warm.

There's nothing worse than working on cold machinery with cold hands. You slip and bust your knuckle on something, that $hit's gonna hurt!
