California Legal Catalytic Converter - 27/08/10 02:14 AM

Anyone know where I can get a Catalytic Converter under CA emission standards? Recently got my smog check.. failed emissions so I took it to the mechanic. They told me all CC needed to be replaced. On top of the bad news was no after market CC are legal in California and only be purchased at the nissan dealer. The mechanic estimated $1800 to replace with OEM parts. I found a 50 state legal magnaflow but its only compatible for 2001-2004. I have a 2000 X, anyone know if the 2001-2004 universal cat will fit? If not please provide me with other alternatives.

THanks!

Someone else can pipe in here if I'm wrong, but the Magnaflow should fit. There were very few changes between '00 and '01, and the ones that were made were mostly cosmetic. So it should fit.

Thanks for the info Gonzo....

I was comparing the Magnaflow Catalytic converter to the one listed on Nissan courtesy parts and they look different. I'm not too familiar with the terminologies but are catalytic converter and catalyst converter two different things?

I listed the link for the mangnaflow CC. Please let me know if the dimensions will fit?

To replace all the cats, do I need to buy three of these? I guess front, rear and passenger?

Thanks for your help.

Don't quote me verbatim, but if I remember correctly there is a difference between 00 and 01, I have an 01. I believe that 00 had 1 cat on each bank and 01-04 have two on each.
