Steering Stop Replacement

Steering Stop Replacement - 02/12/02 06:57 PM

I did a few searches and didn't really come up with what I was looking for. I have some replacement steering stops (the nylon inserts and the cap that holds it in place). My question is how do I remove the old ones and how do I install the new ones? The tech I asked at my dealer kinda scratched his head and said "all I do is grease 'em". Well I wanted to try new ones and don;t want to screw them up so anyone that knows how to remove the old one and install the new ones I would like to know. It almost looks like the new ones will crush on... Thanks in advance.

Isn't it just a press on plastic cap ?

Well I fixed the stop that was causing all the ruckus when I turned. As Ian surmized, it was pretty much a no-brainer. The caps pop right off and get tapped on with a hammer. Now my front end is nice and quiet! The part number for the new caps is 40039-2S610 Cap-Stopper Bolt. They were $2.50 at the dealer. I personally got tired of the grease wearing off and the noise coming back. Hopefully this will be a longer term solution.... Bad one on the left new one on the right.

Where are these located? I am having some squeeking from the front end when I turn and I want to see if this could be the problem. What is the difficulting in changing these?

Thanks

I switched mine out with new ones. The part I received was the same thing that came off from the factory. I used a claw hammer and just pulled the old ones off, they come off quite easy, and flipped the hammer over and tapped the new ones on. The fix works quite well and despite how easy it seems that the caps will come off mine are still there after three weeks and some moderate off roading.

How many 'stops' are there, two per side?
Thanks.
