Grit in the oil

Grit in the oil - 05/07/03 04:55 PM

I just got done changing my oil and was reminded of something. Everytime I've changed the oil there has been some grit in it. Is this normal?

Thanks

Hmmmm, doesn't sound right to me anyway. I change oil and filter every 3K and have never seen grit.

I also live out in the toolies and see more dirt roads then blacktop.

I guess it could depend on the frequency in which you change your oil, kind of filter used, and the situation your truck is driven in.

Combat Medic,
As Getty-up-Go mentions, there shouldn't be any grit in the oil, be it sand, metal shavings or pumice. I'd suggest a used oil analysis to see if there is something else going on that you can't see. There are a number of companies out there that do this, one that I know of is Blackstone Labs.
