Synthetic Oil - 20/02/01 10:57 AM

According to the recent issue of Auto World weekly, it is OK to use synthetic oil for break in on a new engine. Their experts also said that is OK to switch to synthetic oil at any time even over 100,000 miles. They give a lot of excellent info in the article. The best recommendation is to use synthetic oil when the vehicle is under harsh conditions, like towing, long time between changes and winter climate. The mag is on newstands now. Oil cost is approximatley $219 added over 100,000 miles if you change your oil every 7,500 on a 5 qt oil change. Sounds like cheap insurance to me.

I just can't let that little 3 1/2 quarts in the X go for 7,500 miles. Maybe 5,000. My MB, on the other hand, with it's whopping 7 1/2 quarts, routinely goes 12,000 miles between changes. And it will not get synthetic 'till it's third change at about 35K.
