Are we to blame for this??? - 12/12/03 08:09 AM

Earth\'s Magnetic Field weakening...

I know it's only a matter of time before someone in the environmental movement blames us for this. After all, we all know that Republicans and the like are to blame for everything that's evil and bad in the world.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist the chance to start another worthless Dem vs Repub thread. [Finger]

I wonder if the Earth's Magnetic Field is Republican or Democrat?

wink

I'm betting it's Democrat. It's always there, but obviously, according to the article, you can't rely on it for shit. Wait, that sounds like the Republicans too...

I'm going to have to go for a drive.

I wonder if my fancy auto-dimming/compass rear view mirror would be covered under warranty if the Earth's magnetic field collapsed?

I'm not worried. After all, Al Gore can just invent us a new magnetic field...he invented the internet, ya know. [Smoking]

How will my Toliet flush correctly? eek

Re: Are we to blame for this??? - 12/12/03 09:44 AM

Maybe we can determine when the actually Pole shift will take place. Then flush your toilet at that exact instance. One of two things can happen.

1)The water will stop and move in the other direction.
or more likely...
2)Your toilet will explode and all life on this planet will cease to exist.

it can happen [Uh Oh !]

The "bowl swirl" is caused by the rotation of the earth, not the magnetic field. Magnatism has no effect on noniron things like water. The article said nothing about the earths rotation changing.

Easy, Trigger....hence the smiley. There was previous talk about turning this into another rousting political debate, so I figured I'd throw out a fun, but not to be taken seriously, salvo. Guess I hit a sore spot with an Al fan.

Personally, I think the magnetic field problem will be a result of an impending potatoE shortage. laugh

Re: Are we to blame for this??? - 12/12/03 11:34 AM

We all know that PotatoEs do NOT generate a sufficent magnetic field to cause the collapse of our own. I held a compass right next to a sack of potatoEs and the needle didn't move a bit. But we all know that PotatoEs have a strong GRAVITATIONAL field and are only slightly less strong than black holes. PotatoEs should be avoided at all costs.

The drive didn't help me figure out if the magnetic field is Dem or Repub... Plus, the drive renewed my curiosity about the political affiliation of my 350Z. mad

Actually us "Environmental Whackos" have know about this for years. Many scientists believe the Earth's magnetic field has flipped many times in the past. It will probably happen again but the human race will have destroyed itself by then.

All the neo-conservatives were too busy trying to explain why god moves the magnetic poles, the rest of us decided to find out the scientific reason.

No, it was Cheney and his Haliburton buddies. The Pentagon hired them to fix it, but they fucked it up and over billed the American tax payer.

NERD ALERT!! NERD ALERT!!!

[LOL] [/b]
It's called the Coriolis Effect. It causes the rotation of high and low pressure areas in the atmosphere as well.

1) Do not associate scientists with "Environmental Whackos" (unless speaking of the idiots who recommended MTBE for California gas); doing so is presumptious & reflects a quite non-scientific mentality.
2) Please feel free, at any time, to explain exactly the scientific reason behind the shifting & occasional reversal of the earth's magnetic poles over the ages....

Christ, We'll all be pushing up daisies by then. Planets don't live forever. They have got to be traded in on a new model every few million years.

I went to the Earth's Magnetic field. It used to be open, but I noticed lots of "Trespassers will be Polarized" signs up lately. It's a shame that the rest of us are punished for a few spoilers.
