Well I know you all are to bitch and gripe on how racing is dangerous and how I should have gotten a car if i wanted sumthin fast. Well news brief...had I had money I probably would have bought a car, but I have none. My parents bought me my X as a surprise b-day gift(and no im no complaining I LOVE my X to death, only i wish it were 4x4 and s/c) but ne way heres my story

On the way home from the local cruise spot last night,I was stopped at a red light, a red riced out Toyota Celica GT(standard i might add) pulled up 2 me. The guy gave me one of those "Im the shit grins" and reved at me. Well i wasnt bout to race him but i dropped it into first neway. Well the light turned green and we both just rolled till we crossed the intersection when i heard his loud ass fart can go off. So of course i stomped on the gas as well. Slowly i kept gainin and gainin on him...Id say i had a good 1/3 car lead on him when i cut it off cause a car was coming. Xterra 1 Celica GT 0 As I looked ahead i saw a stop sign and thought hhmm round 2.
Well he reached the stop sign b4 me but he just sorta yeilded and took off. I was like what? So i came to a stop looked all around for cops and tought off. i heard his fart can go off again so i floored it once more. This time i didnt stop till all he could c were my taillights.
He quickly took a left at the next intersection. Xterra 2 Celica GT 0.
So who said Xterras werent quick?

I like to drive FAST in my X , some even think too fast , but cmone ANY Celica GT will start from a line faster then X ever could, and will be 10 blocks away while you are just geting to the second block

Assuming that Celica had a 2zz engine (same as my Vibe GT), the "off-the-line-launching" of that engine is really poor (for a sports car). The 2zz is pretty ordinary until it hits "lift" (lift kicks in at around 6000 rpm). When it hits lift, it should get a sudden burst of speed - and eat up any Xterra. (even in "pre-lift" mode, the 2zz engine should have destroyed an Xterra in a race.)

It sounds like your race was over a pretty short distance, and it's possible that the guy never got a chance to bring it up to 6000 rpm. Or maybe that other guy was a piss poor driver and missed a shift or two.

But, I would say that its pretty impressive that a (non S/Ced) Xterra beat a Celica GT.

A 1980 Celica GT with a 22R is faster than a Xterra.

Guys, the Celica GT is spineless down low. Throw on a low-backpressure exhaust and any hope of low-end toruqe is gone. Now, a Celica GT-S on the other hand would have smacked him pretty good. The -S has the higher power engine(180Hp vs. 140Hp).

Ummm... first off... I traded in my "spineless" Celica GT to get my X... I loved my car, but after speeding ticket number 40 (yes, I should've traded it for a Schwinn), I could take it no more... I could keep up with the GTS any day of the week... I miss my car... second... no way in hell an X, even a S\C X, could stay anywhere near a Celica... sorry dude... it was just a dream, Dorothy... come back to Kansas

Here's what to do Shockinxterra if you want to race a Celica again:

1: find an automatic GTS. GTS has NO torque anything below 6000, while the GT is actually more powerful down below. I mentioned automatic because with a manual he can do a drop-clutch.

2: shift your truck into 4Lo. (Oops, I forgot, you don't have 4x4 )

3: stomp on it when the light turns green. (No, I didn't mean to stomp on the Celica's roof, stomp on the gas! )

4: you should be able to out-torque him and
win for the first 20 feet.

5: go buy a radar detector.

Ok, you get my point. Racing a car on the road is just not cool if you drive an X. You'll get your ass kicked and you'd look stupid. Maybe you should tell the Celica driver to race you on sand instead?

No it cant, although one tried on the highway once. For some reason the guy just had to pull in front of me, and then for some reason had to slow down to 55 in a 65. So I passed the guy, on the right, and started to pass him. He then decided that I wasnt going to be in front of his super Geo, and tried to speed up, after passing him going about 75 I backed off.

Anyway, thats my super exciting Xterra 'racing' story. :rolleyes:

The Xterra definitely isn't FAST, but it's fast enough. It will accelerate and pass faster than many 4-cylinder midsize sedans (a la Ford Taurus, etc.).

This "cabbage HeaD" has a full ride to college. I was ranked Ninth in class of around 400 people. Three, yeah I like Fast and The Furious, but I don't think it's the best movie of all time. Again I didnt choose to buy an X, it was given to me for my birthday so I could have a vechile in college. My mom bought me an suv for the simple reason that it offers more space. So Fuck Off.

Hey ya'll. I didn't start this post to stir any trouble, as you can see with my opening paragraph, I knew that I was going to get ripped for it. I am no "troll", I just like posting my opinion just as others do. I know I am young and have a lot to learn, but that doesn't mean that you all should jump on me or where I come from. I respect your opinions and ask for the same. I love to go offroading but I know my limits. I'm not going to go climbing rocks or large hills.
You all say driving fast is dangerous, but then again so is climbing large rocks. I have seen many pictures on this forum of Xterra's on their roofs. But we do it anyway for the rush.
Maybe I speak for myself when I say, "it's better to try and fail, then be left with the question..What if?
