We have another Charlie Wenzel on our hands

This just pisses me off (enough to make a thread of it). This situation just reminded me of the famous "Charlie Wenzel" on Pirate.

The short story:
This guy offers to sell some 31" BFG AT's (5 of them) for $200 w/ 8,000 miles on them. Since the buyer can't get all the way down to pick them up (from PA to NC) we (VAXC) line up a couple people to make the delivery. The 2 of us offer to deliver the tires for free (no gas money), yet the seller (who has to drive the least amount of distance) tells the buyer that it will be an additional $50. $250 for 5 good tires still isn't a bad deal. Everything is set up, then the a$$ goes and trades them in, the day before he was to deliver them. Luckily no money changed hands. He had been trying to sell these tires since October 24th. I think this is just a rotten thing to do.

If he PM'ed the buyer before he went through with the trade and the buyer said OK'd the deal like he claimed, it doesn't sound THAT bad and he's not the only dick in this situation. If he made that part up, then yeah... that's pretty bad. I'd be pisssed too.

On most boards, like our MXO, if someone screws another they get banned.

Even though the money hasn't changed hands, it's still not a cool thing to do. If there was a deal then there was a deal.

If he really PMed the buyer - then I don't see any foul. It's not like he drove the 2 hours to get there and then BAM - No deal. He gave advance notice - even if it may not have been 24hrs - at least it sounded like he gave it before they started heading for the big meet.

I already appologized to the memember who was going to buy my tires... I never accepted ANY Money from that member... so i dont understand the problem i did? Its ok.

I have done a lot of dealing online (nothing X related yet) and have had mostly good transactions. I do have to say, it sounds like the seller really didn't think through the deal before agreeing to it and when he realized he could get a better deal else where, he took it. My stance on on-line trading, once a deal is made, stick with it. If you don't follow through, it always looks bad on the person who broke the deal (be it the seller or buyer). Sure, there is no legal binding contract or anything, but when all is said and done, you don't want to burn too many bridges.

Yep, asshat. If you make a deal with someone, you don't back out because you can make an extra $50. That shows poor character. It isn't that big a deal it seems, just remember it in the future when you deal with people.

Dana is the most easy going person I know. It sounds like the two people involved have come to closure. Why tear up a club over it with that circumstance?

1. XMountaineer , you are a third party other guy who was all set to do a good dead to help the buyer out. Is the actual buyer as bend out of shape by this as you are?

2. XnItUp made a shitty descision but he's not a thief. There is a big difference between a guy that collects money and doesn't deliver and someone that backs out of a deal. There is something to be said of the fact that he didn't put you guys through the crap and flake on the day of the purchase/delivery.

3. XnItUp : Dick move. sometimes your integrity is worth more than a couple of bucks even if it with a few people you barely know on the net. Kharma is a bitch and she has a long memory.

4. I allways think of an asshat as a wearable ass gasket.

Dana is a good, personal friend of mine. He was upset last night. He's not so upset anymore.

The biggest thing about this isn't XnItUp, it's people today that don't honor their word.

We had two people going out of their way (me and lj1983) to help him sell his tires.

I should have researched it better how I was gonna get you the tires. I honestly wasnt expecting someone to buy the tires so fast. As XM stated i had thse for sale since October and noone bit on them. Then you wanted to buy them and I was in hurry mode. I am sorry for the grief I caused to Dana and the other guy I was suppose to meet today. I really did appriciate that people would go out of their way for someone like that. To XM you shouldn't have brought this up to the Enitre world to see..

because... When i went to URE.. people told me to post on there and see what i could get for them. They weren't sold at the time.. I never recieved any money from anyone... There is no business ON EARTH that will hold a product that there is no deposit on. Why would anyone expect a private party to?

I'm sorry, but there is no deal until a deposit has been made. It shows good faith on the part of the buyer.

If the buyer wanted to "secure" those tires then he shoulda paypalled a deposit. Without that there's simply nothing to complain about.

The biggest reason that something isn't sold before there's a deposit:

90%+ of backouts are buyers.

So, buyer beware and seller beware. Let's follow better business practices in the future.
