Any RC'ers around?

Any RC'ers around? - 17/12/11 06:14 PM

Just pulled the trigger on a Traxxas Ken Block Gymkhana rally car. Got the VXL brushless with the 2.4g Traxlink. Should get here hopefuly by Christmas.

Anyone else have this car?
What rally tire do you recommend?
What's going to wear out first?

This is my first REAL RC. I've had the cheap ones from toy stores. This is the first one I've bought that you could upgrade and repair.

ThanX...

Watch out for trees. Anything related to Ken Block is a tree magnet. I've seen it first hand. lol

Not like that Portugal wreck, huh? That one was nasty, and NOT tree related. Hell, I crindged and tucked my chin just watching it.

The many years that I ran sweep at Ojibwe Forest Pro Rally and he was there he would always find a tree to get snuggly with. I will have to post a few pics.

I did not see the Portugal wreck. I will have to look that one up.

Got it in yesterday and charged the battery while I was reading the manual... and for 4 more hours after (6 total). Ran it for a little bit tonight. It's a little strong and fast for inside the house.

Came with a pretty hard compound tire on it. Need to get it outside to really stretch it out.

It also seems that table legs look alot like trees...lol

Pics soon...

I did notice that they do have a softer tire available:

I am about to make the jump to real R/C'ing. Been living in the Toy R/C for to long. My 5yo son is really into it. Just hard finding a decent R/C that can hold up to my sons driving skills, the boy has talent.

The Traxxas models are pretty tough, and pretty reasonable considering. I've been putting my 1/16 Rally KB Fiesta through it's paces and I haven't been kind to it. I feel like I keep copying that Portugal crash, but out on the Texas pavement. Barrel rolls flat out @ w.o.t. aren't body friendly... and neither is bashing the curb.

I understand HPI makes some pretty tough trucks too.

I really like the electric Summit and Slash trucks.

Did you get the newer controller (TQi) w/ the Iphone/Ipod docking station?

Man this is going to be more expensive than my hunting addiction...

Re: Any RC'ers around? - 05/01/12 12:00 PM

Didn't get the TQi. I did get the 2.4ghz setup and the VXL brushless motor. I really don't need the pro style rig. You definatly want the VXL brushless. It will upgrade to dual batteries and LiPo's w/ no prob.
I've been looking at the Slashes also, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for the jump to 1/10... and not sure if I want to build the inevitable dirt course in the back yard.

Bought an 1/10 ECX Torment about a 2 1/2 months ago. Lovin' it! Best 1/10 scale truck for the money. Full coil-over suspension, re-buildable and upgradable shocks. 20t brushed motor, with a 15t available. Hotter batteries available. Pleanty of parts available. Nice tires & wheels. Decent looking body. Tuneable 2.4ghz radio.

Selling them RTR at my local hobby shop here for $179.95. Selling on Horizon Hobby's site for $169.95. Worth every penny! I've been bashing the crap out of mine and haven't broken anything. I've stripped a few spur gears, but that's more my fault (landing full throttle) than anything. Spend the extra $50 for a better charger, and another $50 for a hotter battery.

yeah, i used to run 1/10 scale back in the day with RC10-T2/T3's and the buggys.. then came the 1/8th scale.

I may buy a Ebuggy to see what all the fuss is about with these brushless - lipo setups..

i still love the tuning of the Nitros, batterys are just plug and go, not my cup of tea.

i am just down to a LOSI Mini T, its got all the goodies i wanted for it at the time after dumping about 400 extra bucks into it. did it up with the baja bug body, graphite chasie alum. front arms the outlaw wheels and tires, and a custom stainless front bumper/skid plate, keeps the front end from lifting up too much

I wouldn't count out the electrics. Brushless/LiPo setups are making more power than nitro's do now. My little Traxxas Ken Block Rally is brushless and it's fast out of the box, and they supply a "high speed" pinion to swap out. Lots of the older Nitro guys admit they stick with Nitro just for the smell/sound/feel. Nitro's are fun, don't get me wrong, but I'll take the convenience of the electrics.
