Springtime Fun…

Springtime Fun… - 04/04/03 07:28 AM

On the second day of spring a group of a couple dozen of us enjoyed an absolutely spectacular day on the coyote canyon trail in Anza Borrego St. Park.

The desert was greener/healthier then I've see in a long time, wildflowers blooming all over the place, one of the best blooms in the last 25+ years!

The Coyote trail is very interesting from the flora, washes, to the water crossing, rock climbs, formations, palm canyon at the end, etc.

Enjoy this bit of spring from SOCAL :-)

Agreed! That looks awesome, but whoever took the pics has a serious equilibrium problem. Might want to get that checked out... Of course if I had the opportunity to take my Xterra off of level ground (I hate the midwest), I might have the same issue. laugh

[LOL] with everybody always posting those straight on/flat photos, I thought I would try a different theme, looks like it worked laugh kind of gives a better feel of the off-camber action on the rocks

Snoopy,

Yeah everybody made the rock garden this time without much fanfare, seems the park service did some trail fill in and now its only moderate at best

CM,

Yup AP's works have influenced me! still using my trusty old CANON S100 but would like to get something with more features such as a Nikon 4500. Moab now that's the place for some crazy angles eek and I'm going, rain, shine and/or Snow!

bn300,

Yeah the Grand should at least get you to Ouray then you can ride with us and drink all you want! bring your football helmet for protection. [Spit]

Nice pics of Coyote Canyon! Reminds me of the last time I went there, lot's of fun! I wasn't sure they still had the canyon open to vehicles, but it looks like they do. Maybe you can tell me what date they close the canyon to vehicles. I wanted to make a trip down there with some co-workers either Coyote Canyon (now that I know I can still go there) or to go see the trestle bridge at Goat Canyon.

Re: Springtime Fun… - 11/05/03 02:23 AM

it disturbs me greatly that i live in socal and have owned my xterra for almost 1/2 a year and have yet to run any trails that fun-looking.
with my school + work schedule i haven't had any chances to go to any sccx meets. the one chance i had to go to a meet was a few months ago, and i believe sccx was running that particular trail. but i got directions from mapquest and they ended up leading me to some deadend street in a business district. DAMN.
hope to wheel there soon though frown .

Re: Springtime Fun… - 13/05/03 01:57 PM

Finally made it out to Coyote Canyon but I was a little disappointed that we could not run the entire length of the canyon. The canyon is closed the canyon to vehicle traffic between middle and upper willows. There was a time when you could wheel the canyon from Borrego Springs to the town of Anza. Still had a lot of fun running all the way to the third crossing. I stopped our group from continuing up the two rock climbs. I felt my Xterra could have made it through "even with the stock tires", I just wasn't sure if my friends little Blazer could climb over some of those rocks (not enough ground clearance on those vehicles) and I didn't want to be responsible for him doing damage to his vehicle. Coyote Canyon's seasonal closure (to vehicles) begins June 1, I suggest get out there before it closes.
