Tree wires, haven't seen those in a while. But, we don't really need them here. Usually see them when visiting family in North Carolina.

Keeps the branches from hitting the windshield and such, ripping off stuff. Pushes them up and out.

Why would you say that?

He's got roof mounted lights on his roof basket - which could potentially get caught on some branches and do some damage.

He should have welded them on next to the windshield. laugh

( I'm sorry. I just slapped my own face. I'll just sit quietly now . )

The lights stick up above the tree wires. I think that they just stop branches from getting stuck under the lights. But the lights are not totaly clear of damage. If the tree wires did that, he would need to raise them three inches or so.

Cool pics.

On the tree wire issue vs. roof lights. Unless you've got some high-zoot lights up top, a windshield is much more expensive to replace. I'd sacrifice roof lights long before a windshield on the trail.

Granted, in the Rockies and Moab, tree wires would not be very useful. Out here in the woods, they help much more.

I run into trails that those could be useful for.

Nice Pics [ThumbsUp]

The heck with tree wires, it's a snorkel, that's what ya need.
The thing has another good foot to go before it starts to suck water so I don't know why this guy is bailing out, sissy.

This was probably the deepest to date that we have had the X. It was about 3.5-4' deep. diff vents have been adapted and all firewall through holes and external wiring have been made " water resistant" speed was about 5-7 mph and the X handled it with no Problem what so ever.We were impressed with it's ability. There was however a very slight amount of water that appeared by the forward edges of the back doors,

Re: So far deepest water I went through ... - 26/02/05 04:29 PM

I forded 52-54" of clear running water in an '01 on 32's with a 3" suspension lift. The water was all the way over the hood coming up the windshield, halfway up the side mirrors, and a good 4-6" up the side windows too. No snorkel. The windows were up (durr), and I actually stalled for 3 turns of the key. I laughed and smiled for pics the first 10 seconds, became concerned at the 2nd turn of the key [Huh?] , and said something along the lines of "@&$#@@%^!!!" in the final 25-30 seconds of standing at a dead stop in the swift water mad . When I heard the click I was waiting for, I popped the clutch and started right up the other side, out into the safety of the air. I didn't shut off the engine for over 6 hours after that( laugh ), just kept it running. Hoping that when I went to start it up again, it'd rumble to life like nothing'd ever happened. I imagine the only reason I stalled mid river was I let up on the throttle in surprise as the water rolled up the hood at me eek ..I've driven through the same river since, but I'll never tempt fate again like I did that day. I always drive just a few feet to the side of that underwater crater, where the waters only 2-3' deep.

There're a few threads, some in the pics forum, some in 4wd, and perhaps clubhouse as well. Search using the words snorkle, and water, and fording. It's all good and fun 'til you throw a rod [Too much XOC] ...
