Swamp Lake - 05/09/06 09:26 PM

Pictures of the High Sierra Poker Run put on by the Cal4Wheel drive Association.

Took place up in Sierra National Forest in the Dinky Creek Area which features some spectacular mountain scenery, trees, meadows, lakes, etc on the Swamp Lake OHV Route which is ~ 9 miles long and rises to almost 10k.

Features several rock gardens, narrow creek like climbs, tree squeezes, granite climbs, and a very steep descent off with some intresting named obstacles along the way such as Pinch point, V-rock, Blast rock, Rooster Tail, etc. Rated as most difficult, some refer to the trail as Rubicon like and compared to all the built jeeps my lift/tire combo was on the smaller scale.

Normally recommending for SWB vehicles and I was the only non-jeep on the run, but everybody was really cool/nice to wheel with and accommodating, a true 1st class event all the way in one of most beautiful forest areas around IMO. Surprising to see all the wildflowers in the meadows this late in the summer but the snow didn’t melt off until July this year in places.
