Movie and file storage Questions

Movie and file storage Questions - 02/03/02 10:17 PM

#1 when using Windows movie maker how can I save the file as MPEG (.mpg) I use that and MGI videowave 4 to mess around with movies but the MGI program makes huge files! For example a 13sec movie is 44,500 KB (or 44.5 MB) saved as a .WMV file. I can make the same movie, in movie maker in high quality at 351 KB in .WMV format.

Which leads me to #2 where can I have the files hosted so I can share them? Geocities wont' accept .WMV files. Any suggestions?

Have you tried reading the documentation that came with them...

For MGI yes, movie maker im not aware of any since it came with the machine. I have tried the Help section of Movie maker but could not find anything for file types.

Windows Movie Maker does not support MPEG. Give up on it, it's just a toy.

In MGI (Roxio) VideoWave, you need to research settings for keyframing and compression if you want the file size to be small enough. It sounds like you are outputting full frames to get a 44MB file.

#1 - I have never used the Windows movie maker but my guess is that your export settings are really high. Check to your frames per second (15 recommended) and your image size (4:3 ration, 320x240 is good) also your sound settings (mono and mid range) and if you want smaller files, then tone it down. I use Adobe Premiere 6.0 so I am just giving your the setting options info from my clips - my final product is a wmv because of the file size and ability to stream rather than having to wait till it is all downloaded.

#2 - send superjens an email, HE (oops) has room for pix and video and is glad to help out. He also has FTP access to it - pretty easy!

Good luck.

Though Movie Maker can import and use MPEG files it will only save files in WMV format.

She sounds like a hottie! [LOL]

Plenty of space for hosting vids and pics on my site, bandwidth is great (T1) so knock yourselves out. Just note that if you put up good videos I'll be also forced to link to them through my own website!

You really need to use an FTP server. I use and like Meteor FTP, it's free and easy to use. To learn more about it and download a free copy Click Here

I highly recommend FTP Voyager.

Hey Ramness, when using Movie Maker do you ever get the errors "QEDIT has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL" or "Movie Maker has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL"? I'm lucky to get through a session with out getting one of these errors, particularly the "Movie Maker has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL". I looked in the Microsoft error page and all it said was that having your color set above 16bit will cause this, I've never had my color above 16bit and I even tried it in 256 and still recieved this error. Just curious if you or anyone else had any ideas what might cause this.
