Has anyone found the need to add any additional skid plates to their underside? If so, what did you put on?

For $12 you can get a skid plate that covers your transfer case... $12 prevention for a potentially truck stopping BIG $$ boo-boo...

Have you really looked at that "skid plate"

It would have trouble stopping a blade of grass..

You read my mind. My '81 Subaru and '89 Trooper came from the factory with the transfer case plate (as well as the engine and fuel tank plates). In researching the X I was a bit surprized to find they left off a transfer case plate.

Skid Row plates are worth it for the piece of mind they give you!

Having used this referenced pathy transfer case skid for 9 months now I can tell you that it has held up just fine for me and I have banged it several times and rested it on rock/dirt as well. Well worth the minuscule cost IMO.

As mentioned Skidrow makes some nice plates for the X as does Calmini or you can make your own like some of us are doing / have done wink

There is no way that a peice of stamped steel with that many holes in it could support the Xterra. My guess is that when you did rest it on a rock/dirt, it simply yielded to the weight and collapsed toward the transfer case.

Carlton,

Yeah, I wouldn’t think that plate could support the weight of the Xterra either. For that purpose I would be looking at Skidrow or others designs like I mentioned.

However, considering the cost/benefit of this plate and its performance so far on my truck I would recommend it and give Nissan some credit for engineering a part that does offer some protection.

BTW my t-case plate has a few dings and a slight deflection but no collapse. I will try to get a photo on-line likely not until next week) and maybe the video of me impacting the plate and you can see for yourself wink

The way Oleg drives, he needs outriggers, not skidz...
