Tire Question? - 13/08/06 02:30 PM

Has anyone on the forum put on 20inch wheels and installed the 285/55/20 BFG KO's. I want to know if they will fit with no lift or do I need a 3 inch lift, which would look much better. I went on the tire caculator and they are not that much bigger then the 265/70/16. I have a 02 xterra SE
thanks for the help

im running 285/60R18 on mine. i had to trim a little plastic and massage the wheel well. and mine is a 4x2 mind you. the tire you mention is about an inch larger . i guess alot of it depends on the offset of the wheel. mine are 18x8 +25mm for your reference. go ahead and get the lift.

Why would you want to run low profile offroad tires on 20" rims? eek confused Do they really even make the KO in a 55 AR? A short sidewall while offroading is BAD and if you're not offroading, then...???

I'm amazed no one started an inferno here yet.

On the topic: I doubt the BFG makes that size of the tire.

who ever said that the bfg at/ko are offroad tires?

just because people use them for offroad doesnt mean that thats all they can be used for. now if he said gy mt/r or bfg mt i might understand.

just like anything else, its your truck do what you want with it.

you may get a better response or answer by going to the cardomain.com or sounddomain.com forums, and posting your question there.

My point was that it makes no sense. Nobody with any brain cells would go offroad on expensive 20" wheels and low profile tires. So if you're not going to go offroad, wouldn't you want to get a tire that performs best on the road? Not saying the KO isn't good on the road; it's just that there are many other tires with superior street only performance in terms of traction, ride, etc.

I guess I just assumed that anyone wanting to go to 20" wheels would also be wanting something grippy on the road, not some mushy offroad biased tire.

First the Ko is made in that size, and do you think if I was building the truck for off road I would put 20inch wheels on the truck. If I want to go play in the mud, or trails I have a jeep wrangler for that. The xterra is my street truck, im not saying u can't take it off road by any means, it just my truck was purchased for my daily driver.

The key to avoiding a lift would be gettng rims with enough backspacing...about 5.25" of BS is required to avoid rub.

Hope that helps.
