wheel/rim size

In moving up to a 285/, or 295/,75/16 BFG KO the folks at Tire Rack informed me that a minimum 7.5" rim is necessary ("for safety reasons", which implied a legal disclaimer for them if I am reading the response correctly). My current rims are the stock '06 OR 4X4 7"x16". In getting the all point synthetic fluid change at 30K miles, the very reputable tire and repair shop that I use said that the 295 KO would work just fine on the 7" rims (have the 21/2" body lift). I know a lot of you have the 285 or 295 KO and would like to find out if you purchased wider rims or used the stock wheels.

Locally, Discount Tire would not go above the 265/75/16 on the 7" stocker rims. They said the rim width needed to be at least 7.5" for the 285s.

At the same time many people here run 305s (which is basically 12.5" wide) and they are fine. I myself run 33x12.5
