Please God not another Wheel/Tire Post - 08/08/03 11:02 AM

I have a 2000 Xterra with 15" steel rims. I saw a new Xterra running 265/70-R16 tires on alloy wheels. As I'm not looking to bling-bling my truck but to fill-out the wheel well, would those fit on the 2000 or do I need to trim the mud flaps?

I searched but no one has addressed newer Xterra rims on an older one.

Oops just found that you can back farther than 30 days. Also found tire calculator.

Seems that they come in just under 31". Hope that means no rub.

Anyone have 16" alloys they want to get rid of?

Who go to 16", the tires just cost more. Get 15" alloys if you don't like the steel wheels and let the tire fill things out. 31s will rub on a 2000, but not much. Trim a tad and you're set.

I liked the way the factory 16's looked on the truck. Has anyone got their hands on a set and tried this?

31" will still rub on 2000, specially muds.

I put 31" 265/75/16's on an '01 today and took off 1/2" x 3" strip of mud flap from the front. Looks great, BEEFY. [Smoking]

Couldn't I just use the 2002 mudflaps to avoid cutting? They appear cheap enough.

I would use these:

Well you cant avoid cutting mainly b/c tire physically touches plastic insides of well. It wont rub till you make turns, so if you planning to drive straight only - you r ok cool

overwise there is no escape from trimming plastic edges - its not hard, and it wont hurt looks of your truck - not visible from outside at all.

You can use the 2002 flaps, but you will still have to trim the flare to match its contours. It will look perfectly natural afterwards.

Stupid peanut gallery comment... why the concern about cutting plastic ? 99% no one would even notice, not even the dealer if done smooth. (not everyone is an X maniac)
Its a mod for larger tires, which means offroading for the most part, and a 1" x 3" lip concerns you ??
I knocked off that lip for winter.. no more ice/packed snow build up.
