Wrangler RTS - any comments?

Wrangler RTS - any comments? - 30/06/04 10:32 AM

I am getting the hookup thru a friend's tire shop, and my options are this:

Wrangler RTS for a quieter, smoother ride, - $98

or

Dunlop TG35's for a more aggressive traction, good for off-road. - $82

BUT-I live in Chicago, and although I'm going to take a month long road trip to the SW and all over,(and I WILL be doing a little bit of off roading) the vast majority of my driving is on Chicago streets, which is kind of like off-roading with potholes.

Will the Dunlops annoy the shit outta me in the city,

and will the Wrangler's be inept and susceptible to damage on the off-road or gravel/rock roads?

I had the Wrangler RT/s in a 31"X10.5" on 15" rims. They worked out pretty well. Great on-road for daily driving, and not too bad offroad, considering they are a street tire. I got about 30k out of them before I sold them, and went with 32"X11.5" Dunlops RTs.
Here are a few pix..

Wow, is your tire supposed to buckle in like that when you go over rocks?
That's beautiful.

They're 16's, I should've mentioned that.

So the Wranglers will be more than adequate for some off-roading, huh?

Thanks

I aired them down to 14psi in those pix, which was a mistake on my part. I had plenty of traction and they wwrapped around rocks really well, But I had NO ground clearance at all. I hit absolutely every rock and it sucked.
They were expensive tires too, I bought mine used however. Sears wanted $140 per tire plus mounting and balancing. Not cheap at all..

Hahaha!!!!

I priced out Sears at exactly the same.
That's why this is a great deal I'm getting.

My X is getting some minor body work done today, and all I have to do is make a phone call, my guy's gonna hook me up, I don't even have to go anywhere.

Thanks again, unless you tell me the Wranglers are no good for rocks 'n stuff, I'm gonna make the call.

thank you.

Wrangler RT/s are adequate for rocks and stuff (as you can tell by the pix) but keep in mind that they are a STREET TIRE, not an All-terrain or Mud terrain tire. They sucked in mud, and were ok in sand.
As long as the majority of your driving is on the street, you'll be fine. They are great street tires. Im sure that the sidewall on the 16" tire is better (more plies) than the 15" as well.
Most importantly, great price..
