Newbie question. - 07/12/01 06:49 AM

I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but I'm new to suspenion types, lifts, and so forth.
Do stiffer torsion bars actually provide any lift to the front end? Or do they just make the front end suspension stiffer to prevent sag if you add heavy components (like an ARB Bull bar)?

You can get the same lift out of the stock bars, it's all a matter of how much tension you put on them. Where you may need to use 3/4 of the adjuster travel to get the front end raised to a certain point, the stiffer bars will only use maybe half of the adjuster travel (purely example, may vary). The stiffer bars can withstand the extra tension better, along with the extra weight of the bumper/winch etc.

A new set of Torsion bars will not lift the truck (unless you crank them up). They were designed for heavier loads and to stiffen up the front end.

It's all we do at work when we're bored. Come to XOC and answer questions.

So, is cranking the torsion bars the only way to lift the front end?

Also, I just checked Rancho's website and I didn't see any add-a-leaf system for the Xterra. Whats up with that?

Rancho just makes the Add-A-Leaf (AAL) system. I don't think there's a difference. You can get the AAL system from EOE- Todd makes stuff specifically for the X/Frontier. The link is here . As for raising the front end, the T-Bars is the poor-man's lift. While, yes, it does cosmetically raise the front, you will lose a little of the droop that you would normally have. I think the A-Arms are the part to replace to lift it up for real. Correct me if I'm wrong guys/gals.
