Front end Alignment

I'm getting ready to buy a new set of tires. I need a front end alignment also. I have heard that it would be best to break in the tires say 1,000 miles before the alignment. I don't buy it. What is your opinion??

When I purchased my Revos at Firestone, they gave me a free alignment check after the tires were mounted. They also gave me $10 off of the alignment if I needed it for filling out a survey on the web. But I didn't need it.

i dont buy it either, alignments arn't based off the tires and the only thing that breaking the new tires in on an old alignment could lead to was bad wear (if it's out).

you are correct, but it is a good idea to have an alignment check AS SOON as you get new tires unless there was no "abnormal" wear on the previous set of tires.

i know this is a little off topic, but i tried to get an alignment the other day and they said the couldnt do it because there was too much play on the bearings. and i just had them replaced about a year and a half ago. i posted on this the other day but didnt get much of a reply, i was hoping maybe someone knew what would cause this? or maybe they are just lying to me.

lift the front end off the ground (both tires). hands at 9 0'clock and 3 0'clock and wiggle, if there is any movement (exceeding 1/4 inch) then it is the tie rod ends (possibly the center drag link), at 12 0'clock and 6 0'clock and wiggle and if there is any play (exceeding 1/4 inch)then its the ball joints.
