Elevation Adjustment.....DOWN - 27/05/03 09:11 PM

Okay i know i will probibly catch a lot of shit for this since i see a lot of off roaders here but here goes. I was wondering if anyone has lowered their X? I want to drop it about 1.5"-2", is it just a simple torsion untwist and blocks in the rear, or is there more to it than that? Also is there any stiffer replacement sway bars out there for an 03'? Please post any sugestions that may HELP. Thanks mad

SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes you will catch a lot of shit!
Some other people have done it.
"If" you drop the Torsion bars you will be riding on the lower bumpstops in the front. Rear??? Maybe a block?

Ian, he's in your neck of the woods. Think you can pay him a visit and knock some sense in him? laugh

No thanks.

I don't associate with people who ruin a perfectly good 4x4 vehicle. laugh

The first time it snows, he'll be crying to raise it back up to stock height.

Now now, we don't know if it's a 4x4 yet or not.
Still, it would be ruining a perfectly good Xterra, and that's just a heinous.

They don't sell them 2x4 things here in Colorado. Of course he could be a SoCal transplant laugh

Okay...so it seems that most of you are a little biased towards the upward evelation of your Xs and are quite efficient with your little imbecilic retorts. But to appease your small inquiring minds: I am a Colorado native, raised in Fort Collins, it is a 4x4, and i did just fine in our last 2' snow in a lowered AWD Explorer, so kiss my ass. Thank you to those of you who actually replied with knowledge rather than rubish. [Argue] [Finger]

So I guess you won't be joining RMXC then ?

Re: Elevation Adjustment.....DOWN - 28/05/03 03:20 PM

Well from the sound of it the prejudice of anything street related is pretty strong. If i can post without all of the bullshit responces then yes i would be very intrested in learning more about the X and owners. But if all i am going to recieve is smart ass comments then HELL NO. So you tell me if it is really worth my time? confused

Re: Elevation Adjustment.....DOWN - 28/05/03 03:47 PM

just ignore them man... especially ian [Finger]

seriously most of the grief you recieve here is ignorance coupled with different taste...

Ian and i have argued various topics back and forth for over 3 years now... generally its not worth arguing about... same thing is probably true as far as "street" goes... most here won't understand you desires but some will and they will give you what info they have... just ignore the shit and take the usefull info.... as harsh as some members here are, they are for the most part good people... except for maybe NYMadman

Re: Elevation Adjustment.....DOWN - 28/05/03 04:13 PM

Lifting a 4WD is ok
Lifting a 2WD is ok
Lowering a 2WD is ok..
but lowering a 4WD is just the dumbest thing around.

You end up with a very slow, very heavy truck that handles only marginally better, and gets stuck off-road.

Without a bunch of money, you can't even lower an Xterra. You can't cut the springs because they're torsion bars. You can't just soften the front because it will ride on the bumpstops, lose all upward travel and handle like shit.

It's your truck though, so do what you want, but you have to realize that you are alone wanting to do something like lowering a 4WD vehicle, and you will get a lot of negative feedback because the idea is just plain stupid and serves no purpose.

He ain't alone, Ian!

I've seen lowered Excursions, Expeditions, GJCs, and even a few Wrangler's slammed to the ground with bling-bling 18" or larger chromies on 'em!

Lowering a 4x4 is da bomb! Get with the program, dude, it's the wave of the future! [Finger] wink

Just take a look at these pics!!

Re: Elevation Adjustment.....DOWN - 28/05/03 09:46 PM

Wake up man - if you know other lowriders/mini truckers, you should also that the Xterra has a classic mini-truck suspension. Install blocks and crank down the torions bars. Then go get an alingment and get your scrape on - [Uh Oh !] If your truck is a 4x4, don't lower it - It really doesn't make any sense....

Why don't you go ask this guy what he did?

He's over on the AC board under the lowered section.

i'd say air bags... other wise it wouldnt drive

Re: Elevation Adjustment.....DOWN - 29/05/03 12:00 AM

Ask this guy laugh

Seriously, blocks and torsion bars are for losers. If you block the back and loosen the torsion bars you will be sitting on the bumpstops. That means every time your bling-bling ride drives over anything that isn't smooth as glass it gets sent directly to the frame, bypassing the suspension.

If you're going to fuck up an Xterra, at least fuck it up right.

Wow, I never thought I'd see an X look like a Subaru Forester...at least there would be more room for golf clubs and tennis equipment.

Re: Elevation Adjustment.....DOWN - 29/05/03 05:01 PM

That is Schludwiller's Xterra (PNWX), I 'lowered' it in Photoshop 3 years ago. The wheels are front and rears off a Prelude along with the ground effects.

Re: Elevation Adjustment.....DOWN - 29/05/03 05:14 PM

When I was in San Diego, I saw trucks so damn low that the rear axle was sticking up further than the bed!!! They couldn't even turn a corner at a high rate of speed, or the roll of the body would cause it to rub on the pavement!

Funny thing is, that's Schlud's X blended with his old pseudo-rice Prelude wink

Re: Elevation Adjustment.....DOWN - 30/05/03 02:07 PM

IF the guy doesn't offroad, then it won't mess up his offroad ability. It will still handle snow in 4wd if that's a concern. Torsion bars and blocks is the only way unless air bags. If you trim the bumpstops, then you don't ride on them (duh!) and I don't know how the X setup is in the front, but I know on my Toyota's I've had and lowered (my high school and college days and then some) you can flip the upper and lower balljoints and get another 2-3 inches or so. Align the front and your good to go. Don't forget to get lowered shocks, that's where people really screw up. Compressed shocks ride worse than bumbstops. Airbags would be a whole different story. You guys kill me with the flaming of people wanting to do non 4x4 things with their X. But I've gotten into this debate before and I won't start it up again. Good luck on your lowering project. Post a pic or 2 and forget what these "monster truck" driving guys have to say. They act like they are going on to take on Gravedigger next week or something anyway.
