shock torq - 06/11/02 08:33 PM
I'm going to be changing out my shocks shortly - anyone know the torq specs for the front and rear?

About 30 lb-ft or so.
Just enough to compress the bushings to the size of the washers. All the fasteners are locknuts so you don't need to gorilla them on.
OffRoadX over-torqued the lower mount on the front shocks and bent the mount, so avoid that.

The mount/bushing/collar of the Bilstien shocks is apparently not as wide as the OEM, the 87-108 lb-ft spec in the service manual was a bit much and I bent the tabs on the front lower mount together and damn well pinched the shock in there almost permanently. I had to use a ratchet strap to winch the shock out of the mount then spread the tabs apart again.
The 87-108 might be OK for OEM shocks, but be careful with aftermarket.
The top front is 12-16 lb-ft.

But of course the joint design requires that the shock steel bushing be clamped by the bolt, so you would need to insert a spacer or two to avoid a rattle fit.
