Chances With Straightened Rim?? - 22/07/03 03:56 PM

many moons ago i bent a steel rim when i dropped the xterra into an rut. the plane of the tire bead is off a few degrees from the plane of the mounting flange.

discount tire stated they have a machine that can bend back the rim and return it to a true rotation. my assumption is that this is safe or they would not be exposing themselves to the liability.

question: has anyone else had this proceudre performed? if so, what were the long term results?

You should be fine.

Steel rims take a beating and always bounce back for more. The area that was bent will be slightly weaker than before, but I wouldn't be concerned.
