Looking for good all-around tires for 07 offroad edition - 09/01/11 03:42 PM

Hey all,

I just bought a 2007 off-road edition Xterra and love it! The only thing is that the tires need to be replaced.

The local nissan dealership recommended Toyo tires, but being in Canada, those are super expensive (the dealership wanted aroun $1000 to put them on).

I'm going to be driving in the US next week so figure I'll get tires there.

I do mostly highway driving, and only off-road on occasion. I drive through snow a few times a year as well (in British Columbia).

Can anyone recommend a good site of tires for this kind of usage? Also, I'm thinking since I'll be driving through Oregon, that might be a good place to get the tires (no sales tax). Can anyone recommend a good tire shop in Oregon (not far off the I-5)?

Thanks!!

I bought a set of Big O Big Foot Tires. These have a 3 year replacement guarantee and a 60,000 mile prorated guarantee. They have been a good road tire though a bit noisier than the rugged trails that came with my X. These are excellent off road and in the snow. They are also $1000 for a set of 4, but I got mine on sale for $800. You might check around and see if they are on sale.

Thanks! Was just looking at this page here:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresu...D=10398365&

It ranks a bunch of all terrain tires and stuff. Leaning towards the Kumho, cheapest I've found them is $800 for a set installed.

Any opinions on those?

I dont know how available they would be, but I am on my third set of Dayton Timberlines, and love them. First set was for an Isuzu Rodeo (31x10.5x15) second set for Subaru Impreza Outback Sport, third set for my X. I had them put on the X about half way through last summer and paid about $600.00 for them installed. They dont come with a XX amount of mile guarantee, but I did put over 50K on them on the Rodeo before I sold it. They've been on the Subi and the X now for about 20K now and look like they are holding up good. Just a thought, for a less expensive tire, they have proven themselves to me several times now.

If you're mostly highway, then there is none better than Michelin LTX M/S 2. They are the quietest and softest riding option for asphalt, according to Consumer Reports.

They're an all season light truck tire, so they are ok off road, but not really designed for mudding or hard core wheeling. They'll give you the closest you can get to a "car-like" ride on the road.

He asked in 2011. You are thinking he's still working on this issue 2 years later?
