Xterra 2000 - Need to replace my R15's.. please help - 18/11/11 09:04 AM

Hey everyone..

I have a 2000 Xterra 4x4.. with, I have to assume is, the factory rims on it still.. R15's.

It is impossible to find R15 tires.. so I want to get a new set of rims with different sized rubber.

Can anyone tell me some advice on what other sizes will fit this truck/bolt pattern? Im really at a loss here.

Thanks for any help!

Search is your friend. There are a metric ton of threads about tires and what will fit on an early model Xterra.

Im finding a ton of posts about "how big can I go" in regards to tires.

I dont want to go huge.. I just want to know if I can get some 16 or 17" rims, with normal rubber, that wont rub anything on my truck.

If it is possible, Im wondering what size of tire would fit said options of rims.

Im not looking to pimp out my 2000 rig.. just looking to replace tires, that I seemingly cant find. Why Nissan went with a 15" rim I will never know..

Your question makes no sence, There are litterly a shit ton of different tires for a 15 inch rim, all the way from 29-whatever you want. The reason that they went with a 15 is the tires are cheaper for the most part. Going with a 15 instead of a 17 or 20 gives you much more sidewall to play with. As well as a more comfortable ride.

What you should be looking for in a tire size is 31-11.5/15, 32-11.5/15 33-12.5/15 and so on.

If you are bound and determined to get a larger wheel, I have a set of 5 OEM silver alloy XE style wheels that are for sale. $150.00 gets them. The only reason that they are for sale is that I went to a 15 inch wheel from an older pathfinder.

The stock tire on a 2000 SE is/was a 265/70 R15 BF Goodrich Long Trail. I saw somewhere else where the XE had a 235/70 R15 stock. I know there are some 16 inch rims on Xterras and my 03 S/C SE came with 17 inch stock. The 265/65 R17 is actually a little harder tire to find (and more expensive).

I've seen Xterras on 20 inch rims and they look ridiculous (in my not so humble opinion). Another source for the stock tire size is:
http://www.sizemytires.com/vehicle/2000/nissan/xterra

On a P235/70R15 tire: The 265 refers to the tire width sidewall to sidewall, the 70 refers to the aspect ratio (70% of the 265) and the 15 refers to the rim diameter in inches. Don't know whose brilliant idea it was to include metric and SAE measurements, but it adds to the confusion.

I'd recommend the wider tire for better stability on the road. The narrower tire might perform better in snow.

Aye.. well thank you both for your comments/help.

I live in Calgary, and trying to find 15" tires for my Xterra is difficult.

I dont really want to spend a ton on tires.. I just need something better than what Im using right now.. I dont have much tread left.

I was looking at second hand tires, 15", and I found ZERO in Calgary..

I did actually locate 2 earlier this summer, but they sold before I got to the dealership.

Im totally ok with keeping my current rims if I can find decent rubber for them.. Right now I am using 265/70 R15

Saying you can't find ANY tires in a 15" size is like saying you can't find ANY cars with 4 doors.

You MUST be doing something wrong in your searches to NOT find 15" tires.

Maybe stop typing "R" all over the place.

Search for a 31x10.5/15 tire....or go to the manufacturer's sites, and look at their chart of tires/specs.

Try:

www.tirerack.com

and browse the sizes.

MOST of the 2000 - 2004 X's, and 2005+ X's, came with 16"rims.

Some base models came with 15" rims, and later, when the SC came out, you could get 17" rims too.

MANY people trade the larger rims for 15" rims though, as the tires for 15" rims are cheaper, and if you want a 33" tire for example, the 33x12.5/15 is sort of the paradigm.

I can understand the op's point. Two local places have told me that the size 265/70/15 have been discontinued. These are places that carry Dunlop, Goodyear and BFGoodrich. I have been told I can't get stock BF's for it. Right now I have Continental cross contacts on. Go to their site the size doesn't exist. Go to tirerack and a few say less than 4 or less than 2 available (scracth that, just checked those ones are no longer available). I thought i was the only one going through similar results.

Um, you're ignoring the helpful tips.

Get a 31 x 10.5/15 tire, STOP LOOKING FOR THAT OTHER SIZE.

THIS will solve your "problem".

Enjoy!

Wow. I'm confused by the questions and advice. I just did a search on TireRack.com and found a bunch (15?) of 265/70R15's. Check out this link ->

TireRack.com

BTW - I'd recommend the BFG AT/KO's...

Do they ship to Canada? Call them to find out!
